The dream comes true

After 10 weeks of hard work, clever renovating and painting with Resene, the winner of Mitre 10 Dream Home was announced earlier this week, on the day before the third anniversary of Christchurch's devastating first major earthquake. Both teams bought their new homes, in Kaiapoi just north of Christchurch, for $375,000 at auction – a great deal considering the houses were valued at around $500,000. But it was Martyn and Sarah Giles (above) of the Orange team that were announced the winners and who get to keep their house outright, mortgage free. With six children including four foster children, the house will be very welcome. Earlier, both teams were given $50,000 by ASB towards the purchase of their homes, as well as tablets and smartphones. The teams also received a free Rav 4 each, from Toyota. We will feature the winning home in full in next week’s Habitat of the Week.
