Be cyber smart

16 Oct 2019

We’ve all heard the scary stories about data breaches and scammers trying to either benefit from stealing our personal details from online or tricking us out of money. But sometimes complacency sets in and we start to lose our cyber smarts.  Cyber attacks are becoming more frequent, and they can affect anyone.

This week is Cyber Smart Week; it’s about helping everyone make sure they’re secure online. Here are four simple steps everyone can take to improve their online security:

Use a password manager: Having different passwords for each online account is so important. The easiest way to keep track of them all is with a password manager so that you don’t have to remember them all.

Turn on two-factor authentication: Adding two-factor authentication (2FA) to your login process is a simple way to add an extra layer of security to your important accounts.

Update your devices: Software updates should be applied quickly to fix any bugs and vulnerabilities that have been identified.

Check your privacy settings: Lock down access to your accounts. If you’re not sure where to begin, start with your social media accounts. It’s important to be aware of how much you’re sharing and with whom.
