1 living room, 3 looks
Jan Warburton’s Wanaka home, which features in our Autumn/Winter 2015 issue (available to read here), is a bold mix of bright and neutral colours and grunty textures.
As we do every issue, we had two experts suggest an alternative scheme to one of the rooms. Here are their designs.

The original scheme – neat and neutral
Less brightly-coloured than the rest of the house, walls in Jan Warburton’s living room were purposely kept neutral. Painted in neutrals Resene Craigieburn and Resene Quarter Craigieburn, the walls draw attention to the art patron’s vast and varied art collection.

Mix and match
This scheme, suggested by Resene colour consultant Nikki Morris, is a fun and quirky take on the living room space.
Nikki suggests ever-popular Resene Quarter Alabaster on the walls and ceiling to emphasise the soft but beautiful statement wall in Resene Triple Rakaia. Colourful accents such as the couch and vase mirror tones in the artwork and help complete the overall look.
To visually lead the eye from indoors to outdoors, Nikki suggests staining the timber floors in Resene Colorwood Rock Salt.

Watching the sunset
The home’s Wanaka location inspired this alternative solution by Annabel Berry, of Design Federation – a place which, she feels, evokes memories of sunsets over the lake.
A feature wall in Resene Pink Terrace brings in a sense of warmth to the space and is combined with Resene Ditto alongside grey, white and metallic accents.
To lift and lighten the ceiling, Annabel suggests painting the timber with Resene Colorwood Whitewash. The floor is stained with Resene Colorwood Silvered Grey, and the creamy rug softens the look.
