5 top winter colours for 2016

This season’s top colours for winter are a mix of deep rich tones, as well as those with a distinct hippy retro vibe. All are rich, some are dark – the perfect colours to cuddle up to. Check out these rooms, plus our top picks from the new-look Resene Multi-finish chart:

1. Dusky green

To richer everglade tones to swampy colours, dark dusky green is making a comeback. Use it on all of the walls in you dare, or include in a feature, or accessory. Check out palette numbers R31 through to R36 from the Resene Multifinish collection, and try Resene Hemlock, Resene Clover and Resene Rivergum.

2. Mustard yellow

This is the cooler season’s answer to the brighter yellows that have been popular of late.  Some have a twist of green, whereas others are deep exotic whiskey gold. Check out palette numbers R19 through to R23 from the Resene Multifinish collection, and try Resene Hot Toddy, Resene Galliano and Resene Laser.

3. Storm grey

Yes, grey is still with us but for winter it takes on a brooding, stormy edge. Think darker greys, and those with a touch of blue, green or brown. Accessorise with bronzed copper, animal skins and rustic timber. Check out palette numbers R44 onwards, and try Resene Half Mako, Resene Half Demin Blue and Resene Scarpa Flow.

4. Inky blue

Like the storm greys, these blues span the spectrum from those with a touch of teal, to those that almost morph to black. Inky blues add richness and depth to a room and are being seen particularly in bedrooms. Check out palette numbers R48, R54 and R55, and try Resene Cello, Resene Biscay and Resene Madison.

5. New-age neutrals

For those who just can’t get their heads around the cool greys and whites that have been flooding our homes, there’s a new age of warm neutrals, that go from warm greys to updated looks for that classic colour Resene Tea. Many can be found in the Resene Whites and Neutrals collection , but there are also some gems hidden in the Resene Multifinish palettes – like Resene Travertine, Resene Bubble White and Resene Westar.
