Jen's serene, Scandi-style design

When Jen Domett of DomettDesigns was given the brief to design the interior of this show home by Compass Homes, she took her inspiration from retro, Scandinavian and contemporary living to pay homage to its concrete interior.

Painted in a mix of Resene neutrals and blues that work beautifully together, this home boasts a fresh, soft palette and clean design. Jen completed the look with retro style furniture and Scandi touches, giving each room a welcoming presence.

She tells us more.

What was the client’s brief and how do your design and colour choices respond to that?

Compass Homes wanted to welcome and share the new proposition of mainstream concrete homes available to the residential market.

Concrete, the product, is an ideal way to showcase a lively and engaging space. This approach enables the design to bring together a series of rooms with a visual connection, breathing life into the showroom with a cohesive brand, shape and colour.

What was your overall design philosophy?

The interior is concrete, and so we wanted to pay homage to that. We went with a soft palette and clean design, taking inspiration from retro, Scandinavian and contemporary living.

What Resene colours and products were used, and what inspired those choices?

We used Resene Emerge and Resene New Denim Blue to provide the framework colour in the featured walls, and they work particularly well together.

Resene Emerge is a grey and green sea foam hue, sedate and modest in mood; Resene New Denim Blue is a charcoal blue.

Teamed with pure linen, white, clean patterns, rhythm and repetition, the natural elements (light wood, glass and black metal) shine, showcasing a contemporary connection of spaces.

What part of the design are you happiest with?

The injection of colour in the main and second bedroom adds an element of surprise. The objective was to evoke personality and depth to the show home experience, and from the feedback this has been achieved.
