NZRealReveals week one: Ash and Lou’s kitchen reveal
02 Oct 2025
The first week of NZRealReveals has seen fans and viewers tuning in from far and wide to watch these creator-led teams revamp their homes. With views and engagement soaring, it’s proof of how much Kiwi’s really love inspiring and fun DIY.
We’re loving seeing the teams diving into an array of Resene colours and products, as well as visiting their local Resene ColorShops for colour inspiration and advice. And what’s made even better is the teams ask viewers their opinion and advice on what colours and design to choose, so you can pitch in and have your say!
This week we’re taking a look at Ash and Lou’s kitchen revamp. If you happen to watch it on TikTok, YouTube or Instagram then you’ll know there were some exceptional choices made. Let’s have a look at how they did!
Before:
Starting with a neutral base of white and black, as with many Kiwi homes, Ash and Lou discussed colour options, finishes and what they could do to make their kitchen more practical and give them more space. The choice of removing some shelving meant they got more bench space and were able to open up the kitchen to give it a more roomy, stylish feel.
During:
After visiting their local Resene ColorShop in Whangarei, the duo got to work including painting the walls in Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen in the colour Resene Kangaroo, and adding a section on the wall in Resene FX Chalkboard Paint for weekly menus and family reminders. It’s great fun watching Ash and Lou get stuck in and work together as a team.
After:
The result is a fresh kitchen that now reflects the natural surroundings of the home connecting it to the outdoors while bringing depth to the once white space. The kitchen island is now painted using the sturdy Resene Lustacryl semi-gloss in the shade Resene Permanent Green. This matches the team’s brand new Samsung Bespoke fridge with custom panels tinted to Resene Permanent Green.
There’s also a hidden surprise in this kitchen. After a coat of Resene Smooth Surface Sealer to prep the island surface, Resene FX Magnetic Magic was used underneath Resene Permanent Green. Now the kids can use this space to learn and play with their colourful magnets – while also using their new mini table and chairs painted in Resene Sail and Resene Fog.
What a week! We can’t wait to see what happens in week two. With fresh energy, new creative partners and a cast of Kiwi teams bringing unique stories and styles, NZRealReveals is inspiring a new wave of Kiwi DIYers!
