Ron and Sheryl reveal their beauty in beige

Beige. Bland and boring? Not on this Cambridge beauty, painted in varying strengths of warm beige Resene Bison Hide. The home plays with natural light and contemporary art, bringing to life a relaxing, rustic and welcoming abode.

The house was designed by Aaron Guerin of LAD Architecture, who was given free reign of the design by owners, Ron and Sheryl. His design has truly beautiful elements, such as the internal courtyard with its large glass doors – opening up into the hallway and family room, and filling them with natural light.

In rooms that the sun doesn’t directly hit, they’ve used lighter strengths of Resene Bison Hide to brighten them up. The rest of the house is complete with a nice and natural palette of Resene Rice Cake, Resene Alabaster and Resene Treehouse wood stain.

We talk to Sheryl about the project.

How did you decide on the overall look of the interiors?

We wanted to carry the same relaxed colour throughout our home. On the west side of the home, we used Resene Bison Hide in its full strength, as that’s where we get the full afternoon sun.

What part of the house are you happiest with?

We love all of our home especially the lounge, with its large windows, high pitched ceiling and all day sun. We’re also happy with our striped couches and black leather swivel chairs. And we love the contrast of the exterior Resene Rice Cake plaster finish with the vertical cedar boards stained in Resene Treehouse.

What is your advice for someone trying to achieve a similar look?

If you see a house colour you like, knock on the door. We have had people do that and we are only too happy to tell them what colours we have used.

Do you have a favourite colour, and if so why is it your favourite?

We love the whole effect of our colour scheme – the contrast between the oak timber floors, the carpet choice and wall colours. We find it very relaxing. We wouldn’t change anything.
