Meet the team – Mark Youmans – Architectural & Specifier Representative

Here at Resene we pride ourselves on the number of loyal customers we garner after having tried our paints, stains and decorative or protective coatings systems for the first time.

Likewise, we’re equally stoked when former employees return to the fold after gaining real-life knowledge in one or more related fields. One such ‘returnee’ is Mark Youmans, Architectural & Specifier Representative from our Central Region office.

“I’ve recently rejoined Resene following several years gaining hands-on experience across the trades. I have a particular interest in conservation projects and the inevitable repair and restoration needed, as well as in natural and textured finishes, which when used judiciously can transform a project. I enjoy working with designers, showing what is possible and of course seeing the results.

“I bring a strong blend of practical industry knowledge, application expertise and technical understanding to my current role. While not strictly my job, I’ve had a lot of fun running practical training sessions on site with tradies since my return.”

As well as getting the opportunity to provide some direct, firsthand training, Mark says the most important part of his job is working closely with specifiers.

“Primarily, I offer advice on products and systems coupled with specification writing. Working up product/substrate and colour samples would be a close runner up, as well as giving practical advice on how to achieve certain results or finishes.”

Having a pool of representatives who are able to walk the talk is an invaluable part of the service that Resene offers its customers. Being able to draw on personal experience makes giving the right advice all that much easier. It also means that Mark must have a favourite Resene system to advocate.

“Resene Timber Surface Prep is brilliant for fine finish joinery work, while Resene Clearcote UVS is a cost-effective way of increasing the durability and colour retention of bright and bold colours on most exterior finishes. Lastly, given my recent foray in the painting trade, I would have to add that the Repair Care range of epoxy repair products are an incredibly useful tool in anyone’s arsenal.”

When he’s looking for colourful inspiration, Mark looks no further than our own great outdoors.

“Resene Campground – with its ochre undertones, is a lovely natural green that matches my love for being out in New Zealand’s forests.”
