Are you the next New Zealand Geographic Photographer of the Year?

18 May 2022

The country’s most popular photographic event, the New Zealand Geographic Photographer of the Year, encompasses a competition, exhibition, audience voting and awards night – and entries are now open. With more $6000 in cash prizes, a voyage with Heritage Expeditions and a trip with Adventure South NZ up for grabs, there are plenty of reasons to take the time to submit your work.

Among the many categories include three sponsored by Resene: the Resene Landscape Award, the Resene Built Environment Award and the Resene Colour Award. The Nikon Photographer of the Year 2022 will be picked from all entrants, as will the Resene Colour Award and the Electric Kiwi Young Photographer award (among entrants who will still be under the age of 25 on September 30, 2022).

All photos entered must have been shot after January 1, 2021 (except PhotoStory, which can be after Jan 2020) and within New Zealand territory—including New Zealand-administered Pacific and Antarctic dependencies. All entrants will have a crack at the Ockham Residential People’s Choice Award, which will be voted on by the general public from early September. Winners will be announced at the awards night in Auckland on October 27.

Entries close midday on Wednesday 13 July, 2022 (which will be here before you know it – so don’t delay). Find the full competition details and entry information on the New Zealand Geographic website.
