Pauline designed this home and had it built (by award-winning builder Glen Cayless) 7 years ago, when she became frustrated at not being able to find a house that she wanted to buy. Back then, Pauline was "young and single, but as the years have gone on the house has adapted beautifully to become a family home," and she now shares it with her husband Pedro and their daughter Valentina.

When Pauline started her art consultancy business she worked from home, and it quickly became known as "The Art House" to her friends and clients. These days her company, Artbay, has its own gallery in central Queenstown, but Pauline's love of art is still evident in her home. "We've all got perks in our chosen fields - mine is that I can have beautiful art on every wall, and I love it!" she enthuses.

Where did your inspiration come from for your home interior? I started with the heart of the home - the kitchen - and worked outward, then used the artwork as a basis for the rest of the colour palette.

What was the biggest challenge with creating your home interior? I didn't find it a challenge - I had a clear vision of the look I wanted to create, down to the finest detail.

Which space do you get your greatest satisfaction from? The kitchen, because it's such a social and workable space. The concrete benches are brilliant - you can do anything you like to them: make gnocchi on them, roll out pizza bases on them, dance on them... they withstand all types of treatment!

What is your advice for someone trying to achieve a similar look? Cut out pictures from magazines and put them on a "dream board" to create the feel of your home. Then you can take your dream board along to an architect or interior designer to ensure that you get what you want.

What colours did you use? We used Resene Quarter Spanish White throughout the house. The black high-gloss wall is Resene Nero, and we used Resene Stack in the master bedroom. In the guest bedroom the wall is Resene Triple Stack, but we used Resene Sandtex textured paint. I loved all of the Resene colours that we chose - they are so crisp and sharp. And the feature walls, with their different textures, have an organic feel and are a nice contrast.

What are you planning to do next with your home? I'm happy with this home as it is. My next project is a beach house.
