A blooming nursery: Kelly’s hand-painted floral haven for baby Maisy

Creating a nursery is one of the most exciting parts of preparing for a new arrival, and for Kelly, it was an opportunity to blend her love for feature walls with her experience working at the ReseneColorShop in Dunedin. This room is a charming and truly unique space for her baby girl, Maisy, featuring soft pink hues, delicate floral details and a touch of farmhouse-inspired warmth. 

Kelly wanted the room to feel both original and inviting, so she opted for a two-tone feature wall. The lower half of the wall is brought to life with wooden panelling painted in ReseneSpaceCote Low Sheen in the shade Resene Beauty Bush – a perfect blend of coral and pink that adds warmth and softness to the space. To complement this, the upper half of the wall is painted in ReseneZylone Low Sheen in the shade Resene Quarter Rice Cake, a fresh and airy neutral that provides the ideal backdrop for the next creative touch: hand-painted flowers. 

Against the Resene Quarter Rice Cake backdrop, the small flowers are painted in a mix of Resene Parsley, Resene Bush, Resene Coconut Ice, Resene Festival, Resene Valencia, Resene French Lilac, Resene Dream Big and Resene Champagne. 

Determined to make her daughter’s nursery special, Kelly hand-painted delicate floral motifs across the upper half of the feature wall using an array of Resenetestpot colours. For the stems, she used Resene Parsley and Resene Bush, while the flower petals bloom in shades of Resene Coconut Ice, Resene Festival, Resene Valencia, Resene French Lilac, Resene Dream Big and Resene Champagne. Using flower stencils and a sponging technique, Kelly achieved a whimsical yet natural pattern that brings a sense of playfulness and life to the room. 

The gentle pastel hue of Resene Beauty Bush makes this nursery a calm and welcoming space, and pairs well with the warm white of Resene Quarter Rice Cake painted on the rest of the walls.
