HOMEmade recap: A family legacy revived

29 Nov 2018

Priscilla and Ben’s 1912 villa is part of a family legacy. The home, where the couple now live with their three children, was originally purchased by their uncle in the 1970s. It has since housed four generations of the family and their uncle still lives on the property in a self-contained flat.

Priscilla and Ben are both teachers and were keen to give the house some interior design attention, but were unsure where to start, or how they could afford it.

The HOMEmade team came to the rescue, deciding to makeover the open-plan living and dining area. To create a space anyone would love to relax in, designer Melissa Greenough created a feature wall in Resene Wallpaper Collection design 358011. To that the team added painted walls in Resene Truffle with Resene Black White on the ceiling and window trim and a shelving unit in Resene Dark Slate. The dining room table was painted in Resene Viktor and new doors were added to create a space with better flow.

Outside Dan Mackay and the HOMEmade team decided to create a visually pleasing entrance to the property, which had very little street appeal. They created a modern flat white picket fence with a pergola archway and a tiled walkway to the front steps. Buxus hedges frame the house end of the pathway.
