A dog’s tale adds an environmental message to a Christchurch reserve

Christchurch artist, Corey Harbrow (pictured with his wife Amie) completed this mural for the Keep New Zealand Beautiful and Resene Nature Murals Competition and it’s a feature on the pavilion wall in the Broadhaven Reserve in Parklands, Christchurch. The mural features Resene Hyperactive, Resene Aviator, Resene Lightning Yellow, Resene Splash, Resene Delta Blue and Resene White.

Corey Harbrow’s Keep New Zealand Beautiful and Resene Nature Murals Competition award-winning mural ‘Adventures of Lucky n’ Bobs’ is now in full colour on the pavilion wall in Parklands, Christchurch.

It depicts a cartoon of two superhero dogs ‘Lucky n’ Bobs’ with a light-hearted message to look after the area, clean up after yourself and your dog and be kind to all animals. Corey used Resene Hyperactive, Resene Aviator, Resene Lightning Yellow, Resene Splash, Resene Delta Blue and Resene White to bring it to life.

A graffiti-proof clear coat was applied after completion of the mural using Resene Uracryl GraffitiShield.

Corey was thrilled to be one of the ten winners and pleased the mural will last.

“A lot of my illustrative work is digital based, which in this modern era seems like it has such a small life span. It’s awesome to be able to paint an artwork on a wall that could last five to 10 years and capture so many different people’s attention,” he says.

The Resene Nature Murals Competition, which is part of the Paint New Zealand Beautiful programme, will launch again this year with artists encouraged to submit mural designs which included an environmental message. Winning designs receive a $1000 grant upon completion, along with a $750 Resene paint voucher and other materials to paint their mural.
