Reimagining spaces: Using colour to transform furniture

27 Feb 2025

Arianne Menegazzo Jack, an Auckland-based interior designer and founder of Ari Interiors, has a deep passion for aesthetics and functionality. With a design philosophy centred on everyday liveability infused with a unique edge, she transforms spaces in a way that resonates with homeowners. One of her favourite tools for reinvention? Resene paint.

“I love re-utilising, especially in interior design,” Arianne says. “Paint is one of the easiest and most cost-effective ways to transform a space.” Her recent projects showcase how a fresh coat of Resene paint can breathe new life into furniture, seamlessly integrating it into a room’s existing décor.

When Arianne set out to refresh a sideboard, she knew it was a great piece but no longer fit the aesthetics of the space. Instead of replacing it, she turned to paint to create a cohesive design. “This sideboard was perfect in terms of functionality, but its colour no longer matched the room's colour scheme,” she says. “Resene Undercover was the ideal green-blue shade to connect the sideboard to the wall art and unify it with the rest of the room.”

By selecting Resene Undercover for this sideboard, Arianne ensured the sideboard became an intentional part of the space, proving how a strategic colour choice can enhance both aesthetics and flow within a home.

Another transformation of Arianne’s is a custom-built media cabinet that needed a fresh look. Wanting to avoid white while maintaining a neutral tone, she sought a shade that would complement a vibrant green velvet sofa positioned across from it.

“I love incorporating colour into my designs, and this cabinet needed to complement the vibrant green velvet sofa positioned across from it,” she says. “Resene Quarter Lemon Grass turned out to be the perfect choice. It paired beautifully with the sofa while offering the neutral tone I was looking for – without defaulting to white.”

Arianne’s chosen shade of Resene Quarter Lemon Grass pairs well with the green velvet sofa in this space.

Through her careful selection of Resene paints, Arianne demonstrates how thoughtful colour choices can enhance interior design. Her approach to design is deeply personal. “I have a strong passion for aesthetics and functionality, and I strive to create spaces that truly resonate with people,” she says. “While my work focuses on everyday liveability, I always incorporate a unique edge. I love how my profession allows me to connect with individuals and their most cherished spaces – their homes.”
