Bryce and Olivia switch up the industrial look
Bryce and Olivia Mael like to do things differently, and so when it came to designing their new Hamilton home, they found a look that’s perfectly them.
With walls freshly painted in Resene Black White and polished concrete floor, the couple's interior design has a definite industrial leaning, warmed up with cedar timber elements throughout the home.
The cedar, finished in Resene Natural stain, is a clever addition, giving rich texture and contrast wherever it features... from the hallway ceiling to the feature wall in the bathroom, and cabinetry in the kitchen.
“A key factor for our build was to create a modern unique look that enhanced our gully outlook,” says Bryce. “The interior look we were after was a crisp white fresh feel with the timber elements adding warmth with an industrial twist.”
Bryce tells us more about the project.
How did you decide on the overall look of the interiors? What was your overall philosophy?
We loved the look of the black and white contrast with the warmth of natural timber. We ran with the black and white theme accentuated with the natural timbers.
What part of the house are you most happy with?
It's hard to pick just one area, but we love the front gable ends and the open kitchen dining/family room.
What is your advice for someone trying to achieve a similar look?
Stay true to your design brief and don't be afraid to try something different.
What was the biggest challenge for this project?
The width of our section created limitations to our design.
Do you have a favourite colour, and if so why is it your favourite?
Black, because it's a bold striking colour.
How did you find working with Resene paint and colours?
We love Resene colours and our painter uses Resene colours.
Is there anyone you would like mentioned?
I built it through Equipped Builders with the help of my business partner Peter Samson and our staff.
Our painters from Riverside Painters owned and operated by Dave Vea did an awesome job, along with all the other tradies that helped us create our beautiful home.
