Elegant entrances, stairs, hallways & powder rooms from Three’s The Block NZ this week
The skyscraper heights of the hallways were a tall order this week on Three’s The Block NZ as the teams raced to complete their entrances, stairs, hallways & powder rooms. With a prize of $7000 on the line, some creative and inspiring spaces were created with elegant Resene greys including Resene Pumice and Resene Longitude. One team took things to the next level with paintable Anaglypta wallpaper - Resene Wallpaper Collection RD7100 - painted in Resene Pumice.
A game changer challenge where the teams had to shuffle around an obstacle course saw Dylan & Keegan and Maddy take out first prize, earning them a luxury night at Auckland’s Sky City and a +1. Meg & Dan took out second place after Dan used his 15 second advantage, scoring them an undo card.
Dylan & Keegan had a mammoth task ahead of them this week, creating six sophisticated spaces. They revamped their colour scheme to create a unique panelled ceiling in Resene Longitude and took out the top prize with their unique mezzanine office space.
We take a closer look at the four entrance, stairs, hallway & powder rooms this week:
Dylan & Keegan’s Rooms
Final Score: 27.5/30
Dylan & Keegan’s creative office space earned top marks from the judges. The team painted the walls in Resene Eighth Truffle and ceiling in Resene Alabaster.
Dylan & Keegan were under the pump this week as they tried to complete six areas of their home. Despite Keegan still being injured and sister Maddy having to lend a hand again this week, the team took out the top prize with their elegant powder room, hallway and creative office space. This week Dylan & Keegan mixed things up, painting their panelled hallway ceiling in Resene Longitude, a soft pastel grey blue, to complement their Resene Eighth Truffle walls and Resene Alabaster trim. Keegan chose bright yellow, the team’s signature colour, for their front door.
The judges loved the unique mezzanine office with its cleverly placed artwork and well thought out design. Chris thought it was genius, unexpected and that the team had nailed it with the stunning artwork that complemented the elevation. Ann-Louise loved their choice of yellow door. “You’ve got to smile when you see that,” says Ann-Louise, who also thought the design choices in the powder room were excellent. “I love it, the black cabinetry is nice. It looks good.”
Lauren loved the team’s use of Resene Longitude on the panelled ceiling. “I loved the tongue and groove ceiling in the entrance,” she says. “It was a very, very light grey, I liked it and it added a bit of texture and warmth to the space.”
Dylan & Keegan’s elegant hallway has a sophisticated colour palette with Resene Eighth Truffle walls, Resene Alabaster trim and statement ceiling in Resene Longitude. Paint yourself your own yellow door with Resene Wild Thing.
Meg & Dan’s Rooms
Final Score: 23.5/30
Resene Black White trim and ceiling in the entranceway complement the Resene Wallpaper Collection RD7100 painted in Resene Pumice.
When it came to their areas this week, Meg & Dan got creative. Their neutral colour palette included a paintable Anaglypta wallpaper - Resene Wallpaper Collection RD7100 - feature wall painted in rocky Resene Pumice. They created a clean finish with Resene Black White surrounding walls, ceiling and trim.
The judges liked the powder room and thought that it was thoughtfully created with a good choice of artwork. “I like this. Practical, gorgeous, fresh flowers, a lovely space,” says Ann-Louise. She loved the use of the Resene Anaglypta wallpaper and said it was an effective space that allowed the eye to rest. The judges loved the simplicity of the spaces and thought the clean lines were effective. Lauren said that Meg & Dan had achieved a great balance between clever design and appealing to the widest possible audience.
The Resene Wallpaper Collection RD7100 feature wall painted in Resene Pumice along Meg & Dan’s staircase adds interest and compliments the surrounding walls and trim in Resene Black White.
Connie & Rach’s Rooms
Final Score: 19/30
Connie & Rach’s powder room utilises very similar tiling to that seen last week in Meg & Dan’s family room. The green tiles complement the walls and ceiling in Resene Barely There and pops of gold add a feeling of elegance.
Connie & Rach created some elegant spaces this week and continued their luxe design into their powder room and staircase. Using Resene Barely There on the walls, ceiling and trim, they created a sophisticated powder room with pops of gold and deep green tiling. Their staircase was both practical and beautiful, with LED lights highlighting the timber stairs and a large art piece continuing their green colour scheme.
The judges thought Connie & Rach created some stunning spaces and thought the detailing in the powder room was a great choice. “Great first impression, look at the artwork,” says Lauren, who loved the powder room and choice of plants. “I was wowed instantly by the entrance and the artwork at the end of the stairwell.” Ann-Louise loved the powder room and the fact the team had chosen to add more masculine elements.
56.15
Connie & Rach’s elegant staircase features Resene Barely There walls, ceiling and trim which create the perfect backdrop for their large art piece.
Tim & Arthur’s Rooms
Final Score: 6.5/30
Tim & Arthur’s skylights create a sense of height and the natural light reflects off the Resene Black White walls, ceiling and trim.
Despite hitting a few bumps this week, Tim & Arthur turned things around to create some simple yet elegant spaces. They used Resene Black White in their entrance and powder room, creating the illusion of space that provided the areas with a clean finish. The skylights throughout the hallway created a feeling of added height and the timber floors grounded the look.
The judges loved the skylights as they walked into the entranceway. “You’ve got some great light through here with the skylights,” says Chris. Ann-Louise agreed, complementing Tim & Arthur’s choice of art and spacious powder room.
