Inside the Omokoroa home that nailed the brief
If you’ve ever built a home from scratch, you’ll know that every design choice matters – especially colour. And for the owners of this Omokoroa property sitting right beside the local golf course, finding the right hues wasn’t just a question of taste. With their subdivision outlining rules for exterior palettes, their decisions had to be both sensible and stylish. Thankfully, Resene had them covered.
This home exterior is painted in Resene Half Tuna, with Resene Grey Friars on the garage door, front door, guttering and fascia. Contrasting trims are painted in Resene Half Black White.
Sitting next to the golf course, the dark exterior in Resene Half Tuna and Resene Grey Friars looks smart and stylish. The trims are painted in Resene Half Black White.
After purchasing their section, homeowners David and Jacqueline teamed up with Navigation Homes Bay of Plenty to begin bringing their vision to life. They were supported through every step, including navigating those pesky design covenants, but they came armed with a clear brief and past experience using Resene products.
Meeting with Resene Colour Consultant Michelle Aschoff at their local Resene ColorShop, their entire colour scheme was locked in within the hour – a testament to both Michelle’s expertise and the couple’s clear sense of style.
The kitchen and dining areas are painted in Resene Concrete, a gentle silvery grey, with doors painted in Resene Quarter Tuna. Joinery is painted in a custom-made Resene white.
In the formal lounge, Resene Quarter Stonehenge adds cosiness and warmth. The ceiling is painted in Resene Black White and trims in Resene Double Black White.
David and Jacqueline’s previous home already featured favourites like Resene Concrete, Resene Black White and Resene Stonehenge, so they chose to repeat and expand on this trusted palette.
For the exterior, they paired Resene Grey Friars with Resene Half Tuna. This combo is a smart, mid-tone choice that ties in beautifully with the lush garden and golf course backdrop. Resene Half Black White on soffits, trims and corner stops provides a clean contrast and helps to create that much-admired ‘picture-frame’ look around windows and doors.
Bright and modern, this living room is painted in Resene Concrete, with the ceiling painted in Resene Black White, trims in Resene Double Black White and doors in Resene Quarter Tuna.
The hallway, painted in Resene Concrete, leads the way to the retreat, painted in warm, earthy Resene Quarter Stonehenge. The ceiling is painted in Resene Black White and trims are painted in Resene Double Black White.
The colour story continues inside with Resene Concrete bringing a soft modernity to the open-plan kitchen, dining and living areas. This neutral plays nicely with the industrial-style furniture and pale flooring. In the lounge, master bedroom and retreat, Resene Quarter Stonehenge adds a warm, calming base that softens the edges of their contemporary interior. And for a slight contrast, but one that stays harmonious, the doors have been painted in Resene Quarter Tuna.
Internal doors, painted in Resene Quarter Tuna, contrast and connect beautifully with the walls in Resene Concrete.
A neutral base of Resene Concrete painted on the walls allows colourful décor and fabrics to pop. The doors are painted in Resene Quarter Tuna, trims in Resene Double Black White and ceiling in Resene Black White.
As much as this house is beautiful, it’s also just as smart. It features a solar electric system, full ducted air conditioning and a layout that embraces natural light and cross-ventilation. It’s thoughtful, sustainable living at its best.
Today, the home still looks as good as the day it was finished. For this family, working with Navigation Homes Bay of Plenty and Resene wasn’t just about picking colours; it was about creating a home that would stand the test of time, and look great doing it!
