A new home to wine and dine your friends in: Check out this fabulous Marlborough home from the Heart Foundation Lottery

02 Sep 2021

When Liz Halpin, Lottery Operations Manager at the Heart Foundation, considers suitable locations to build Heart Foundation Lottery Homes, Blenheim stacks up as a very desirable location.

Blenheim is a beautiful area of New Zealand within close proximity to Marlborough Sounds and the greater Marlborough wine growing region, set against the backdrop of the impressive Wither Hills.

The surrounding Marlborough wine region is well known as the centre of the New Zealand wine industry and enjoys one of New Zealand's sunniest climates, with warm, relatively dry summers and cool, crisp winters. Rose Manor is a new subdivision that lies in between the Wairau River and Blenheim township.

“This beautiful region adds an extra bit of magic for this home as we also celebrate the 75th home that Jennian Homes has built for the Heart Foundation Lottery Programme,” says Liz.

The Heart Foundation is grateful to their major sponsor Jennian Homes and long-term established partners and suppliers such as Resene for their continued support of the programme, helping to raise vital funds to stop families losing loved ones to heart disease, which is the single biggest killer of New Zealanders.

Local designer Aimee Materoa of Materoa Design worked alongside the team at Jennian Homes Marlborough to specify the exterior and interior colours.

What was your design brief?

Our objective was to create an inviting living space filled with pops of colour that reflect the environment and the local region. It was essential that we designed a fun and liveable home that can be used by a diverse range of families, from those wanting to entertain friends to young families with children.

What colours did you choose?

The exterior colour palette was chosen to blend in with the modern new subdivision of Rose Manor, using Resene Triple Black White for the stria cladding and soffit, Black Espresso bricks from The Brickery and Resene Black for the guttering and fascia.

Inside, with its sun-filled spaces, Resene Half Bianca was chosen for the ceilings, window frames, doors and door frames. This fresh colour created a warm and inviting backdrop to allow the furniture and furnishings to be showcased throughout the house.

What was the biggest challenge for this project?

The preparation and design of this house was affected by the Covid-19 lockdowns last year. Some furniture and furnishing items were in short supply or could not be produced by the required deadline. This gave us the opportunity to obtain the best furnishing items we could via local supply channels and we couldn’t be happier with the end result.

What was your favourite aspect of the interior design?

I absolutely loved using the beautiful Resene Wallpaper Collection 220121 in the master bedroom. This allowed me to be creative with colour and textures while incorporating nature into the interior design of this home, which most of my work references. I also love the artworks chosen by local artist Ashley Wicks and the beautiful bird artwork from Earth Sea Gallery, which really help to round off the gorgeous interior.

This home is the most recent build by Jennian the major sponsor of The Heart Foundation Lottery, building homes in holiday destinations throughout New Zealand, which are then finished with Resene colours. The Heart Foundation offers the life-changing first prize of a fully furnished Jennian home to be won six times each year in their long-standing lottery. You can take part by purchasing tickets at www.heartlottery.org.nz.

The Lottery also offers other great prizes such as cars, cash and travel packages. Funds raised from the Heart Foundation Lottery go towards life-saving heart research and helping more than 170,000 Kiwis living with heart disease.
