A prize worth winning – Heart Foundation Lottery House in Greytown up for grabs

19 Jan 2022

Greytown is a new location for a Heart Foundation Lottery House.  This newly built, fully-furnished, first-prize home is only a few minutes’ walk from Greytown’s historic Main Street and with paint sponsored by Resene, it’s a smart addition to the neighbourhood.

“Being only a one-hour train trip to Wellington, the Greytown area offers the possibility of rural living with urban working,” says Liz Halpin, Lottery Operations Manager at the Heart Foundation. “We worked closely with Jennian Homes Wairarapa and chose this site for the build because of how close it is to the village of Greytown.”

“The interior walls, ceilings, woodwork and trim were painted in Resene Half Milk White to match the exterior cladding, using the up and over design to create a blank palette,” Bronnie says. “We complemented this by only a hint of colour, Resene Quarter Tea, on the interior doors to create a soft textural colour change throughout the home.”

Interior designer Bronnie Hutchinson from iDesign chose neutral tones paired with splashes of pastel to give the property an air of tranquillity. The biggest challenge was halfway through the project we went into lockdown. Furniture already purchased had to be put into storage and the items that were yet to be ordered were delivered in dribs and drabs over four months.

“Lockdown definitely created a challenge, however with lots of planning the project came together in a very cohesive way,” Bronnie says.

The neutral colour palette was inspired by the white-washed brick used in the build, and the exterior cladding was chosen to match, in Resene Half Milk White.

The Heart Foundation’s long-term sponsor, Jennian Homes, has built first-prize homes in the Heart Foundation Lottery since 2009. Proceeds from each Lottery ticket go towards life-saving research into the prevention and treatment of New Zealand’s single biggest killer – heart disease.

“The use of pastel colours in the furniture and furnishings ensures the home is a very restful and calming environment with lots of texture, however still minimalistic, making the home feel spacious and inviting,” interior designer Bronnie says. She chose Resene Half Milk White for interior and exterior surfaces.

The Heart Foundation Lottery offers a brand-new, fully furnished first-prize home six times a year. Each home is built in a popular holiday destination around New Zealand.
