A zen makeover

31 Aug 2017

This week on TVNZ 1's HOMEmade, the team brought their skills to another family's home, this time turning an outdated bathroom into a wonderfully zen space.

The home belongs to Keri and Gareth, with their two children. When Keri’s father passed away, it was his wish that she would buy a house with the inheritance. They found this bush sanctuary, a wonderful first home... but it needed a lot of work.

Having already attempted to renovate the bathroom, the budget was tight and their existing red bath was going to cost too much to replace, so they decided to just go with it – painting the walls red, with matching wallpaper.

The HOMEmade team thought it was time for it to go and got to work on the makeover. The result is this lovely, zen space with a relaxing colour palette.

After: Walls painted in Resene Hermitage. The wallpaper is Resene Wallpaper Collection 25720, available from Resene ColorShops.

Attached to the bathroom is a hallway, laundry, tub and storage space all in one. The team worked their magic, simplifying and brightening up the space, making it much more welcoming to their many guests.

After: Walls painted in Resene Hermitage. Door painted in Resene Nero. The wallpaper is Resene Wallpaper Collection 218010, available from Resene ColorShops.

For the garden, the team created an entertainer’s paradise for the musical family, to enjoy with friends and family. To make the most of the sunniest spot on their property, Dan and team demolished and rebuilt the family’s deck to incorporate a back-lit colour changing feature wall, with strawberries planted against it.

See Tui’s step by step guide to create your own wall garden full of delicious strawberries here.
