Beauty and the beach: WIN this Heart Foundation Lottery first-prize home in Clarks Beach

28 Nov 2023

Clarks Beach is a quiet and delightful neighbourhood tucked away on the southern edge of the Manukau Harbour. As part of the Heart Foundation Lottery’s 30th birthday celebrations, you could win a lovely three-bedroom, fully furnished Jennian home decorated with charming Resene paint colours - and call this idyllic spot in Auckland ‘home’.

This first-prize property is the perfect base to unwind, with a popular 18-hole golf course, two beaches, nature walks and stunning views all within a short drive.

“We’re really excited to be celebrating 30 years of the Heart Foundation Lottery,” says Kevin Tregunno, Direct Fundraising Group Lead – Lottery. “Thanks to our amazing, big-hearted supporters, we’ve been able to raise millions of dollars to fund life-saving heart initiatives, including grants for heart research and specialist training.”

The main living areas are painted in Resene Triple Alabaster, with panelled entryway in Resene Half Stack.

This home is perfect for those looking for an easy-going lifestyle, just a 15-minute walk from the seaside. It comes artfully styled with a palette of neutrals and black accents, giving it an air of sophistication. There’s even a trendy study nook, ideal for working from home!

Kate Voice, from the Furnishing Room, worked with the Heart Foundation team on decorating and furnishing the property. Here’s what she has to say about the project.

What was your design brief?

As Heart Foundation Lottery supporters come from all walks of life, the brief covered a broad field. The home needs to appeal to a variety of people, from younger families who are bringing up children, to retired people down-sizing and moving to a quieter pace of life.

Comfy and charming furniture was chosen for the living area, with walls, ceiling and trims painted in Resene Triple Alabaster.

What colours did you choose?

I chose calm blues and greys. This was to create a calm and peaceful atmosphere with a modern feel. It also feels appropriate in the small beachside town surrounded by farmland. The vibrant colours used in artwork adds excitement, energy and warmth. The primary bedroom is painted with Resene Periglacial Blue, which paired with Resene Half Stack and Resene Triple Alabaster throughout the rest of the build, reflects the home’s coastal charm.

The master bedroom is stylish with a feature panelled wall painted in Resene Periglacial Blue, surrounded by walls and ceiling in Resene Triple Alabaster.

What was the biggest challenge for this project?

It was a challenge to tie the colour palette in with the furnishings in a way that appeals to a wide range of possible owners. On top of this, the big challenge was to keep the home feeling as if it belonged in this pretty beachside town while still being modern and homely.

A cosy home with a warm welcome and great street appeal. Weatherboards are painted in Resene Half Stack.

What was your favourite aspect of the design?

I enjoyed the challenge of bringing the colours together and creating a modern family home which feels welcoming but also sophisticated.

I used the furnishings to achieve this and the vibrant contrasting artwork to bring it all together. This was a fun job which I really enjoyed while working to a budget.

The exterior features a beautifully landscaped garden with ample space for entertaining and children’s play. Weatherboards are painted in Resene Half Stack.

In partnership with its long-time key supporter, Jennian Homes, the Heart Foundation Lottery offers the life-changing first prize of a fully furnished home seven times each year.

Lottery homes are built in lifestyle destinations throughout New Zealand and finished in Resene paints and stains.
