The Block NZ recap: Mastering the master bedroom
27 Jul 2017
The teams have eased into the rhythm of The Block NZ life, and got to work on their master bedroom and ensuite for their latest room reveal. Here's who came out on top.
Ling & Zing
This week, the judges felt that the Christchurch brothers had stepped up their effort and improved on last week.
While the colour blocking in the master bedroom was fun, it felt like they were in a concrete bunker – the colour scheme felt grey on grey on grey, could have been better if it included colour accents. Apart from that, the light features were too high, the wardrobe was incomplete, and the layout of the room just didn't work, they said. As for the ensuite, it was too rustic and felt too dark, especially with the inadequate lighting.

Andy & Nate
The judges were impressed with Andy and Nate's master bedroom this week. The judges also noted that there is a clear cohesive direction and design throughout the house, with the boys using a lot of colour and bold choices in fantastic ways.
For this bedroom, the judges felt that the colour scheme worked really nicely together, and commended the boys on their use of textures, with wallpaper on the ceiling, as well as leather, wool, and velvet throughout the room. They also thought the ensuite was an improvement on their family bathroom. Once again, Andy and Nate's room reveal was the winner of the week.

Julia & Ali
The judges felt there was a lot going on in the twins' master bedroom. The feature wall looked like it was straight out of the Twilight movie, and the foggy image made the room feel cold, they said. Although they praised the large wardrobe, they thought the storage shelves should have been painted to suit the bedroom.
The judges were much happier with the ensuite, calling it sophisticated and a complete contrast to the master bedroom.
Overall, the room reveal was a miss this week, they said.

Stace & Yanita
The judges thought that Stace and Yanita's concept for their bedroom was interesting. The judges loved the storage space in the bathroom but not how it sacrificed storage in the bedroom, saying that the bathroom felt too big and the bedroom felt too small. In their favour though, Stace and Yanita have created a real point of difference with such a beautiful bathroom, said the judges.
