Celebrating the prefab

29 Nov 2012

Architectural innovation, digitally designed homes and eco-friendly building will be on show in New Plymouth this summer in Kiwi Prefab: Cottage to Cutting Edge. Opening this weekend and developed by Puke Ariki and Victoria University of Wellington, Kiwi Prefab celebrates the prefabricated homes of our past, showcases the present and asks the question: might prefabs be the way of the future?

Visitors can head to Prefab Landing on the New Plymouth foreshore to explore four full-sized prefab dwellings– the award-winning iPAD by Architex (pictured), Port-a-bachby atelierworkshop, a steel-framed studio by Frametek and Papai Designfrom Lockwood Group Ltd.

There will also be community events, the opportunity to contribute model designs, a digitally-fabricated Creature made from interlocking pieces and a model of a zero-energy dwelling. Visit www.kiwiprefab.co.nz for more info.
