Check out this beautiful Heart Foundation Lottery home in the Whitianga Waterways

The Coromandel is a top destination for tourists and homeowners throughout New Zealand which is something that Liz Halpin, Lottery Operations Manager at the Heart Foundation, sees as crucial to the appeal of this location as a whole.

“The Whitianga Waterways development has a very desirable feel, with canals close by and the ocean within minutes of this nautical Coromandel community,” says Liz, who has chosen this spot for the latest Heart Foundation Lottery first-prize home. Whitianga has proven to be a great place to build a Lottery home, as its appeal suits many ages and family situations.

“We are so happy with the way this build has turned out and we know that this lovely new home will make our lucky winner happy, whether they settle here or set up a beautiful beach home for the holidays,” says Liz.

The Heart Foundation is grateful to their major sponsor Jennian Homes and long-term established partners and suppliers such as Resene for their continued support of the programme. The Heart Foundation Lottery raises vital funds to stop families losing loved ones to heart disease, which is the single biggest killer of New Zealanders.

“For this build we worked very closely with Lucy McBride of Yellowfox Interiors in Auckland to specify the interior and exterior colours,” says Liz. “Lucy always has great ideas to work from, as did Lisa Marcellus of the Furnishing Room in Ellerslie, who worked alongside the team at Jennian Homes for our interior design and styling.”

What was your design brief?

“We really wanted to identify materials and a colour palette for the house that would create a Cape Cod/Hamptons inspired feel, mirroring the marine environment that surrounds Whitianga and in particular the Whitianga Waterways Development,” says Lucy.

“Cape Cod style homes have been admired over many generations for their form and elegance and they continue to inspire us today. The home required a beachy style, a light and fresh feel that would be suitable as a weekend getaway or a permanent home, should that be the case.”

What colours did you choose?

“To achieve this light, beachy style we chose a board and batten cladding which was painted in a gentle grey, Resene Half Surrender,” adds Lucy. “This cladding was offset with crisp white aluminium joinery and the roof and garage door were anchored into this setting using Gull Grey.”

What was the biggest challenge for this project?

It is always a privilege to work on the Heart Foundation Lottery houses, using our style and design to create homes for the winners,” says Lisa. “Our biggest challenge is sourcing of products and delivery and we could not do our job without the help of Jennian Homes. We have a great working relationship with Jennian and the Heart Foundation based on mutual understanding and delivery of the project.”

What was your favourite aspect of the design?

We designed the interior look of this amazing home with a New Zealand Hamptons twist. We created a story that flows from each room that feels warm and welcoming using layers of texture in the furniture and soft furnishings – every room feels connected,” adds Lisa.

The Heart Foundation Lottery offers the life-changing first prize of a fully furnished Jennian home six times each year. Lottery homes are built in holiday destinations throughout New Zealand and finished in Resene paints and stains.

You can support the Heart Foundation Lottery by purchasing tickets at heartlottery.org.nz. Funds raised from the Lottery go towards life-saving heart research and heart disease prevention programmes, keeping New Zealand families together for longer.
