Flourishing forests, mesmerising mountains: Win a first-prize home in Hanmer Springs, Canterbury
19 Mar 2025
Picturesque Hanmer Springs has plenty to offer both residents and tourists alike. It’s a favourite holiday location for many, with the famous Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools and Spa and the Hanmer Springs Ski Area.
It’s no wonder that the Heart Foundation chose to build their next first-prize Jennian home there.
“Almost everyone has heard about the wonders of Hanmer Springs,” says Liz Halpin, Lottery Operations Manager at the Heart Foundation. “It’s a special place in Canterbury and we’re really excited to be offering someone a chance to win a little piece of it.”
Whether you choose to visit during the summer, winter or stay throughout the year, Hanmer Springs has endless entertainment. Feel dwarfed by the variety of oaks, alders, birches and pines as you explore Hanmer Forest on foot or bicycle. Hanmer Springs Ski Area is perfect for novices giving skiing and snowboarding a go. Imagine having all of this on your doorstep… and it could be yours for just $15!
As the lucky first-prize winner, you could take in the changing of the seasons from the comfort of your own property. Watch as the mountains evolve from glistening snowcapped peaks to lush green giants and admire the scenic year-round beauty on display.
The exterior colour was chosen to reflect the natural environment in the shade Resene Baltic Sea, complementing the brickwork.
The kitchen is modern and bright, painted in Resene Half Milk White.
The home itself is expertly designed and furnished to reflect its stunning environment. It’s a great family home with three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a sizeable backyard.
Jennian Homes Canterbury’s Sue Prendergast shares her thoughts on this project and how she and her team brought this charming home to life.
What was your design brief?
With the home being located in the alpine village of Hanmer Springs, we wanted to achieve a comfortable, peaceful environment that people could relax and recharge in after enjoying all the local amenities on offer.
The walls of the main bedroom are painted in Resene Half Milk White, creating a calm atmosphere.
A neutral backdrop of Resene Half Milk White allows new homeowners to make their own mark with décor and accessories.
What colours did you choose?
A very muted calm Resene Half Milk White with Resene Delta feature walls to create interest and bring a little of the outdoors inside.
The exterior is designed to reflect the natural environment, and we went with Resene Baltic Sea on the Oblique to complement the brickwork.
What was the biggest challenge for this project?
We needed to capture the stunning view of the mountains, so house placement was critical to ensure that it could be seen and appreciated while in the home. This involved detailed on-site visits and collaboration with the designers to get it just right!
The exterior is painted in Resene Baltic Sea, reflecting the hues in the mountains and landscape and pairing nicely with the brick.
What was your favourite aspect of the design?
This home really does seem so peaceful and the perfect place to unwind and recharge those batteries – an ideal escape! The bedrooms all have a uniqueness about them but feel like sanctuaries of calm. The indoors flows so easily to the outdoor space and of course, that view is stunning!
In partnership with its major sponsor, Jennian Homes, the Heart Foundation Lottery offers the life-changing first prize of a fully furnished home seven times each year.
