The sunny Tasman is the backdrop for this charming home up for grabs in the Heart Foundation Lottery

Sunny and safe, this Heart Foundation Lottery home in Richmond is perfect for any lifestyle and any life stage. Boasting one of the best climates in all New Zealand, the Nelson region has a special place in many hearts. With a safe community, ample amenities, and stunning scenes just a short drive away, the up-and-coming suburb of Richmond was a wonderful choice for building the latest Heart Foundation Lottery home.
“South Island locations are particularly popular in the Lotteries,” says Liz Halpin, Lottery Operations Manager for the Heart Foundation. “And with Richmond being so close to Nelson city and local tourist hotspots, it’s the perfect location to live in and visit on holiday.”
Resene Ironsand and Resene Eighth Ironsand add contemporary style and warmth to the cladding. Resene Element is used on the trims and hardware.
This brand-new, first-prize Jennian home features three elegantly styled bedrooms, including a master with an ensuite and walk-in wardrobe. Fully furnished, the interior has been expertly designed and curated to follow the latest trends in home décor. This single-level property sits on a spacious, but easy to manage, 554m² section, with a luscious back lawn and two separate patio areas.
“We were pleased with the opportunity to build in Richmond as it could suit so many people’s lifestyles – from young families to retirees,” says Liz. “It’s the kind of place you can take at your own pace.”
A feature wall stained in Resene Colorwood Bask from the We Speak Beach range adds softness to the space. The sidewall and ceiling are Resene Half Barely There.
Working with designer Kim Lile and the local Jennian team, the Heart Foundation have created a calm, cosy space, with a simple yet sophisticated palette. Kim shares her thoughts on this project.
What was your design brief?
“The Heart Foundation asked me to produce a home that is warm and inviting. As people will see this home primarily through photos, I wanted to bring the space alive with colour.”
The kitchen walls are Resene Half Barely There. The island and cabinetry tie into the Resene Ironsand used on the home's exterior.
What colours did you choose?
“To ensure a cohesive flow into the home, I made sure to match the exterior colour scheme with complementary colours indoors. For the exterior, I wanted to create a contemporary, earthy colour scheme. I chose Resene Ironsand and tonal Resene Eighth Ironsand, a smoky brown grey with a hint of warmth, for the cladding and paired it with darker FlaxPod/Cypress for the hardware. This added depth and provided a strong frame to the house.”
What was your favourite aspect of the design?
“My favourite aspect of the home is the ply feature walls. Resene has introduced these beautiful Resene Colorwood wash hues – Resene Bask, Resene Becalm and Resene Shore Thing – which complemented the exterior colours of the home. Using them as the feature walls in the bedrooms, then carrying the colours out into the kitchen and living space, provided the warmth and natural earth hues I wanted to achieve.”
The feature wall is Resene Colorwood Bask and the side wall and ceiling are Resene Half Barely There.
What was the biggest challenge for this project?
“My biggest challenge was the supply and deletion of products. I remember the panic when I was told the blinds were delayed and wouldn’t arrive in time for completion. The wonderful team at Hubbers Soft Furnishings flew into action and found another provider for me.
Which leads me nicely into saying thank you to everyone, especially Jennian Homes, for providing this beautiful home for Heart Foundation Lottery.”
The walls and ceiling of the serene bathroom are Resene Half Barely There.
The Heart Foundation Lottery offers a brand-new, fully furnished, first-prize home six times a year. Each home is built in a popular holiday destination around New Zealand and is beautifully decorated using Resene paints and stains.
The home's exterior cladding is Resene Eighth Ironsand with gable in Resene Ironsand.
