Let down your hair by the lakeside, in this stunning Taupo home

10 May 2023

Just a short walk from Lake Taupo’s stunning shoreline, this fully furnished Jennian home with charming and timeless Resene neutral paint colours is ready and waiting for a lucky winner in the Heart Foundation Lottery. As New Zealand’s most iconic lake, Taupo was an obvious choice for building a prize-winning home and has proven to be a popular location time and time again.

“Everyone knows Taupo,” says Liz Halpin, Lottery Operations Manager at the Heart Foundation. “It’s a large township surrounded by stunning scenery and plenty of infrastructure to make it a great place to settle down. Plenty of people would be thrilled to own a property there.”

Natural brown tones like Resene Kangaroo, and greens like Resene Lemon Grass bring life to this three-bedroom, fully furnished home, reflecting the calming, scenic vistas right on its doorstep. Sophistication meets comfort with a stylish, open-plan living, kitchen and dining area, including a spacious walk-in pantry. Sliding glass doors lead out to a sizeable backyard and patio, complete with irrigation system to keep the lawns lush. Valued over $1 million, you could be in with a chance to win this home for just $15.

“Taupo is a great area to suit many different interests,” says Liz. “There’s lots of nature trails for those who like walking, plenty of water activities out on the lake, and it’s an easy drive to coastal areas for a nice day away.”

Once again, Trace Beaumont-Orr of Décor Design helped expertly decorate this home, using a range of Resene paints to create a seamless indoor-outdoor connection with Taupo’s iconic landscape.

What did you want to achieve for this house?

“For this home, I wanted to create a home that was light and fresh, with a Scandinavian edge.”

What colours did you choose to best reflect this?

“I wanted to use soft greens to give the centre of the home soul, like Resene Kangaroo. Particularly in the bathrooms, I wanted a nice, fresh feel so I went with Resene Lemon Grass.

Externally, I used a variety of greys with Sandstone Grey on the roof and fascia, Gull Grey on the garage door, and the Resene Half Taupe Grey from the Karen Walker Paints collection on the cladding.

What was the biggest challenge you faced during this project?

“I don’t often find these projects challenging – but this time, it was a little tricky to bring the natural woods and rattan together. However, I think the natural elements work well with the choice of paint colours and help reflect Taupo’s beauty.”

What was your favourite aspect of the design?

“I just love the casual feel of this home. It’s truly a home that can appeal to all age groups.”

In partnership with their long-time key supporters, Jennian Homes, the Heart Foundation Lottery offers the life-changing first prize of a fully furnished home seven times each year.

Lottery homes are built in lifestyle destinations throughout New Zealand and finished in Resene paints and stains.

You can support the Heart Foundation Lottery by purchasing tickets at heartlottery.org.nz. Funds raised from the Lottery go towards life-saving heart research and heart disease prevention programmes, keeping New Zealand families together for longer.
