Meet the teams competing in House Rules ANZ: Coming to Three and ThreeNow this month!

06 Sep 2023

Warner Bros. Discovery NZ have announced the full cast for New Zealand’s debut season of House Rules 2023 - streaming first on ThreeNow from Sunday 10 September, House Rules NZ airs on Three on Sundays, Mondays, and Tuesdays across seven weeks.

This high stakes home renovation show sees five teams of two gamble with the most important possession in their lives: their home. Each week, one team will hand over the keys to their home, placing trust in their competition, the four other teams, to complete the renovation of the entire house in five and a half days, leaving only five house rules to be followed... or not.

Let’s meet the teams competing:

Fun and feisty Paediatric Nurse Nikita, and Financial Advisor Sherwen, a married couple of ten years from Howick. As their family grows, so do their aspirations, and they hope that their renovation holds the promise of a bright future. Nikita and Sherwen are hands-on creative types, and though they have next to no renovation experience, they are eager to roll up their sleeves and bring their vision to life. Sherwen describes Nikita as the one who adds “sparkles” to his raw ideas, while Nikita agrees that Sherwen is the idea-generator, and she provides the creative vision. Together, they make a strong team, blending their strengths and talents to tackle any challenge that comes their way.

Newlyweds with big dreams, Intermediate School Teacher Jemma and e-Commerce and Digital Operations Manager Alvaro from Glen Eden. A passionate planner, Jemma envisions a warm and inviting space, influenced by a modern coastal aesthetic with light and airy elements promoting a sense of calm and tranquillity. Alvaro is all about the painting (not to be mistaken for the arduous task of priming) with a keen eye for colour and an interest in seeing how colours affect a space. With their hearts set on building a welcoming home, these two are excited to turn their fixer-upper into a space where their future family can grow and flourish.

High school teacher Martinque and builder-husband Andre from Ōtātahu. Martinque and André’s paths first crossed 11 years ago when they met at a party, since then, the two have become an inseparable pair with complementary strengths. André’s precise expertise in carpentry and problem-solving complements Martinique’s creative flair, eye for design, and relaxed theme in home aesthetics. With their warm and inviting style, Martinique and André dream of creating a space for friends and family to enjoy. They are particularly eager to see their kitchen and bathroom transformed to match their vision for a perfect family home. Although he is the builder – she is definitely the Project Manager of the pair.

Mother/daughter team Char and Violet, hailing from Murrays Bay. Growing up, Char watched her mum and dad renovate their childhood home, instilling in her a passion for transformation and design. As a team, they bring a perfect balance of skills and strengths. Char excels in spatial design, mood boards and sustainability, while Violet is a people person with a keen eye for the details, and a team player. In terms of decor style, Char leans towards natural textures, mid-century modern and coastal themes, while Violet prefers modern, classy, and contemporary aesthetics. They may have the worst house on the best street, but Char and Violet are hoping the other teams can transform it into a true gem.

Cousins and best-friends Theresa and Jarrad renovating his house in New Lynn. A mother and grandmother with a heart of gold, Theresa’s family are her world, and she treasures every moment spent with them. Jarrad, a single father to two teenage boys, has faced his share of challenges, coming out the other side of a tricky separation. Wanting a fresh start for himself and his sons, Jarrad knew Theresa would be the perfect team mate to help turn his New Lynn house into a home. Theresa knows just how much they deserve this new beginning, saying, “I can’t think of anyone more deserving than him.” Both passionate and outspoken, these cousins are not afraid to express their opinions over who’s the boss.

House Rules NZ streams first on ThreeNow from Sunday 10 September, with episodes uploaded at 12pm each day. It then airs on Three - three times a week; Sundays 7:00pm, and Mondays and Tuesdays at 7:30pm on Three.
