Our First Home: winning indoor-outdoor flow
31 Mar 2016
This week on Our First Home, the teams were not short of challenges, including a photography competition and constructing furniture from a limited set of materials. That, and the main task at hand, of course – getting another room refurbished up to scratch for their respective, and all important room, reveals. Here they are.
It was literally all hands on deck for the Wottons who unveiled their own piece of outdoor paradise. Their sixty square metre deck is a massive selling point for the family, say the judges, and were deemed the winners, securing the helpful hands of Carla next week.
Judges were particularly impressed with their choice of colour for the deck, stained in Resene Woodsman Decking Stain Limed Oak. Get the look of their exterior with Resene Stack (painted on the weatherboards), Resene Friar Grey (painted on the roof) and gloss Resene Alabaster (painted on the window frames).
This week, the Roughans turned their original three bedroom and one bathroom house into a four bedroom with two bathrooms. The upstairs 'nothing' space has now become a a laundry and second bathroom.
Despite the judges' concerns about the flow of the laundry and bathroom, they praised the family for continuing to use difficult or wasted space in a clever way.
It was three-in-one for Team Pearce, who worked on their dining, kitchen and living areas this week. Walls were painted in Resene Alabaster, doors and trims in Resene Half Atmosphere Grey, and new laminate flooring was installed.
Judges spoke positively about the styling and overall finish but weren't sold on the booth style seating off the kitchen bench. Time will tell whether this was a wise investment or not.
