Pantone Colour of the Year – two for the kids?
09 Dec 2015
Every year, colour company Pantone announce a colour of the year. This year for the first time, it has announced not one but two – Rose Quartz and Serenity. Essentially, baby pink and baby blue!
The colour of the year is seen as both a reflection of the mood of the times, and also as a trend prediction.
Pantone describes Rose Quartz as “a persuasive yet gentle tone that conveys compassion and a sense of composure. Serenity is weightless and airy, like the expanse of the blue sky above us, bringing feelings of respite and relaxation even in turbulent times.”
“As consumers seek mindfulness and well-being as an antidote to modern day stresses, welcoming colors that psychologically fulfill our yearning for reassurance and security are becoming more prominent. Joined together, Rose Quartz and Serenity demonstrate an inherent balance between a warmer embracing rose tone and the cooler tranquil blue, reflecting connection and wellness as well as a soothing sense of order and peace.”
The company also comments that the combination challenges traditional perceptions of color association in a ‘gender blur’.
If you’re keen on using the colours in your own home, the Resene colour matches are Resene Pink Terrace, described as a romantic mix of soft sunset pink and apricot glow for the young at heart. And Resene Polo Blue, a cool sporty blue.
Resene Pink Terrace, painted on the plate above, features as one of our colour trending pastels round up. The table is painted in dusky rose pink Resene Soulmate.
Stripes in Resene Quarter Merino and Resene Polo Blue give a vintage look to this bathroom fitout. See more: When eco meets zen
