Show your support for NZ made businesses
20 Nov 2024
Established in 2019, New Zealand Made Day falls on 21st November every year to celebrate New Zealand Made. Hundreds of businesses across Aotearoa New Zealand, like Resene, get involved to share their NZ Made story, products, services and the team behind them.
Faced with growing economic uncertainty, supporting New Zealand brands is more crucial than ever. Small businesses with less than 20 employees make up 97% of all businesses and employ 29% of workers in New Zealand. Get behind your favourite Kiwi business and support local in the lead-up to Christmas – a little goes a long way!
The story of New Zealand's own paint company:
Resene, a proudly New Zealand-owned paint company, began in 1946 when Eastbourne builder Ted Nightingale created an alkali-resistant paint for concrete in his garage. The resulting product, Stipplecote, was so successful it became a commercial venture, evolving into a pioneering brand with innovations like New Zealand’s first waterborne paint in 1951. Over the decades, Resene introduced groundbreaking technologies, including the Total Colour Multi-Finish System, virtual painting tools, and environmentally friendly practices like the PaintWise recycling program.
Still family-owned and operated, Resene has grown from its humble beginnings to become a leader in the paint industry, known for its commitment to quality, colour innovation and sustainability. With manufacturing facilities in Lower and Upper Hutt, a strong presence in Australia and the Pacific, and three generations of the Nightingale family at its helm, Resene continues to shape the world of paint with Kiwi ingenuity and global impact.
