Swap cans of food for paint testpots with Resene Hunger for Colour!

19 Feb 2026

This February New Zealanders all over the country are visiting Resene and donating cans of food in exchange for Resene testpots.

Now entering its 11th year, the Resene Hunger for Colour food fundraiser gives you a chance to donate food and help vulnerable families in your community by swapping two cans of food for a 60–80ml testpot of Resene paint.

Throughout this month you can swap up to 14 cans of food for seven Resene testpots, with all cans donated at Resene stores given to local Salvation Army foodbanks.

The Hunger for Colour campaign is also a yearly highlight for craft and community groups, especially the popular rock painting groups, who eagerly anticipate the chance to restock and choose new colours.

It’s also very popular with renovators as it provides the chance to try out multiple decorating colours for the cost of two food cans. It’s a win-win for everyone involved.

If you’re looking for a DIY project to try to use with your new Resene testpots, give these a go:

Crate expectations

Make summer entertaining a breeze with this handy DIY condiment crate. It will save you many trips to the kitchen and you can serve your condiments, cutlery and snacks in style. Choose your favourite Resene testpot colour, or multiple colours, for the bottom, and your favourite Resene Woodsman stain for the frame. Click here for the step-by-step guide!

Spa at home

Many of us have old terracotta pots laying around, and this DIY is a great way to give them a new life. If you don’t have any at home, you can pick some up from your local garden or hardware store. Paint yours in your favourite Resene testpot colours and use it in your bathroom like a mini spa table or anywhere in the house, such as the hallway, living room or as a bedside table. Leaning tower of books

Most of us need extra storage in our homes, and this project is both quirky and stylish. This leaning bookshelf not only looks great but can be moved around easily depending on where you want to put it.
