One of the most populated towns in the Coromandel, Whitianga, is revered for its charming harbour and resort-style living. This is why the Heart Foundation is delighted to return here as a location for a first-prize Lottery home.

“Both holidayers and permanent residents love the relaxed feeling that comes from spending time in Whitianga,” says Liz Halpin, Lottery Operations Manager. “It’s been one of the most popular locations in our Lottery, and I believe it’s because this town has something for everyone.”

With its own regional airport, Whitianga is easily accessible and a great base for those looking to explore the Coromandel Peninsula. There are a variety of stunning natural attractions close by, including the famous Hot Water Beach.

This stunning first prize home features the lovely Resene Half Stack on exterior weatherboards.

“Anyone who enjoys being out on the water will be right at home here,” says Liz. “The Whitianga Waterways Development is a great option for jet skis or kayaking, or you could set out to Mercury Bay by boat. If you’d prefer to keep your feet on land, the local golf course and bike park are just a short drive away.”

This home features three bedrooms, including a master with walk-in wardrobe and ensuite. Each room comes expertly decorated and furnished, meaning it’s ready to move into right away! The new owners can enjoy the sunrise with a coffee in hand from the comfort of one of two spacious decks. Plus, this home is on a low maintenance section, making outdoor entertainment a breeze.

The main living areas feature the charming neutral of Resene Half Sea Fog on walls, with doors in Resene Sea Fog to create some subtle depth and ceiling in Resene Half Alabaster.

We spoke to Sophia and Olivia from Yellowfox Tauranga and Kate from the Furnishing Room, to hear all about their creative process when putting the finishing touches on this home.

What was your design brief for this home?

Kate: The brief was to design a modern, comfortable family home with a touch of luxury in a beach community setting.

Sophia: The overall palette has been informed by the soft creaminess of the exterior brick. We paired it with white joinery, soft Resene Half Stack painted weatherboard, and grey for the roofing and garage door.

Olivia: We feel this combination gives the home a modern, coastal feel and will help it stand out from others along Kupe Drive.

The master bedroom is painted in Resene Half Sea Fog, a neutral shade to allow homeowners to add their own personal touches and pops of colour through décor. The ceiling is painted in Resene Half Alabaster.

What interior colours did you choose to best complement this?

Olivia: The interior palette flows seamlessly from the exterior when you walk in the front door. We used the classic oak beige plank flooring through the entry and kitchen, and soft grey carpeting throughout.

Sophia: The walls in the living areas and bedrooms are in Resene Half Sea Fog, with internal doors painted in Resene Sea Fog to create some subtle depth. Ceilings have been kept fresh and light in Resene Half Alabaster.

Kate: With the furnishings, I chose neutral colours with touches of blue and turquoise to add some depth and complement the crisp neutral walls.

Sophia: To create more of a feature out of the bathrooms, we painted the walls in Resene Triple Sea Fog, which creates a lovely contrast with the white gloss bathroom vanity, white bath and white tiling.

The sun-soaked lounge is warm and bright with walls painted in Resene Half Sea Fog and ceiling in Resene Half Alabaster.

What was your favourite aspect of the design?

Kate: My favourite aspect of this design was to create a home near the beach that would work for a family. I kept this in mind while choosing colour palettes that were modern and furnishings that were durable, working this in with the locality so there was a beach flavour and feel.

The bathroom is kept fresh with Resene Triple Sea Fog on walls and Resene Half Alabaster on the ceiling.
