Voting opens for NZ’s Tiny House Awards

10 Aug 2022

Ever wanted to peek inside a tiny home? Have a look at some impressive tiny homes across Aotearoa up for the 2022 Tiny House Awards – voting for their winners is now open to the public.

The nominations are in, and voting is open from now until 25 September. All public votes will go towards each winning category and to crown this year's NZ Tiny House of the Year, the premier award. The NZ Tiny House Awards, supported by Resene, is taking place on 29th October at the Tiny House Conference, Vodafone Events Centre.

There are three categories in the awards: judges are looking for the best commercial build, the best DIY build and the most creative design. There is also a Resene Colour Award for the best use of colour. This will be decided on both public and judges’ votes.

Check out a preview of some of the projects:

Sheila’s entry (built by Shaye's Tiny Homes) is stunning in Resene Quarter Black White. With head height walkways in the lofts, a large kitchen, open plan lounge and a bathroom similar to those in a normal house, long-term liveability is easy in this tiny home. The home has been painted in Resene Quarter Black White, as its owner wanted the colours of her furnishings to pop against the walls.

‘Pohutukawa Double Bridge’ from entrant Rebecca (built by Tiny House Builders Ltd – Katikati) has used a range of Resene hues. “Kacey [the owner] wanted to achieve her very own sanctuary and has done so perfectly with the continued use of the beautifully dark Resene Half Nocturnal throughout the build, a great match to the Resene Gunmetal kitchen base cabinets, which looks stunning on the TG&V wall lining! This is perfectly accented with Resene Half White Pointer to make sure the spaces still feel open, fresh and bright, especially downstairs. The sharp white painted window frames enhance both wall colours, as do the crisp white plantation shutters.”

‘The Tadpole Tiny House’ (built by Build Tiny Ltd) is both chic and innovative. “This client had a need for both a tiny house and a car transporter, so why not kill two birds with one stone? The Tadpole tiny house was a world first tiny house/car transporter, meeting the client’s needs to transport classic cars around the country, as well as manoeuvring their tiny guest house to various locations on their property.”

Solid macrocarpa benchtops, shelving, vanity, and even a trim of macrocarpa runs all the way around the walls. This warmth is contrasted with the white walls in Resene Quarter Thorndon Cream. “In order to visually lift the ceiling these were done just a touch lighter again in Resene Eighth Thorndon Cream.”
