Window décor choices that will keep you warmer this winter

27 Mar 2019

As you may recall from science class, glass is a poor insulator. That means the better you can seal off your windows with soft coverings like curtains, the toastier you will stay inside when the mercury drops outside.

According to Energywise, “good curtains and blinds can reduce heat loss through windows by 60% for single glazed windows, and 40-50% for double glazing.”

While leaving curtains and blinds open during the day allows the sun to heat your home, it’s a good idea to close them just before dusk so that you’ll be able to keep in some of that heat overnight.

It’s also a good idea to choose a blockout lining, which helps retain even more warmth and has the added benefit of blocking out light that could otherwise leak in from the street. Try adding it to one of these new stylish designs from the Resene Curtain Collection.

Intersection brings Art Deco style into the modern world. The bold metallic trellis pattern contrasts with the lightly textured background; reminiscent of luxury, but sophisticated in execution. It comes in Naturalle, Hydra and Charcoal (pictured).

For a similar look, try pairing it with walls in Resene Wishing Well and accents in Resene Grey Seal, Resene Wild Thing and Resene Merino.

Momento is a stripe with a twist. The distressed look of the weave breaks up the fabric with both texture and colour, allowing the stripe to soften the setting. It comes in both Mocha and Stone (pictured).

Try it with walls in Resene Eighth Bokara Grey, furniture and trim in Resene Alabaster and accents in Resene Rice Cake and Resene Bi Hoki.

Suitable for window treatments and other soft furnishing items, these and other Resene Curtain Collection fabrics and custom made curtains are available for purchase from your local curtain specialist or Resene ColorShop.
