See what’s cooking in the drool-worthy kitchen & dining rooms on Three’s The Block NZ

The teams were busy cooking up some creative designs on Three’s The Block NZ this week as they tackled their kitchen & dining rooms. With a packed schedule and grand rooms to finish, the teams worked hard to create elegant kitchens with a dash of snowy Resene Black White and a splash of fresh Resene Barely There.

With $10,000 on the line, this was the week to win. This week also brought another opportunity for the teams to win cash with the Odd Jobs challenge. With $25,000 up for grabs in the challenge, the teams feverishly completed tasks and lent a hand around the neighbourhood to get a slice of the enormous cash prize. Ultimately Meg & Dan came out on top, winning the 5K cash prize on top of their odd-jobs dollars, as well as labour hours from the other teams.

With the focus back on the kitchen & dining rooms, the teams created sophisticated and expansive spaces finished with Resene paint. Tim & Arthur used dark wooden features, bold black lines and Resene Black White to win the room this week.

We take a closer look at the four kitchen & dining rooms this week:

Tim & Arthur’s Winning Kitchen & Dining Room

Final Score: 27.5/30

Marble accents and a minimalist approach in Tim & Arthur’s kitchen complemented the walls, ceiling, and trim in Resene Black White

Tim & Arthur took the win this week when they created a kitchen made for entertaining in House 4, with clean walls in Resene Black White that popped against the timber flooring. They finished the minimalist look with a large concrete look island bench and slim LED light, continuing the natural textures through the timber cabinetry. “I’m really stoked with how the kitchen has turned out,” says Arthur.

The judges were impressed by the scale of the space. “I feel happy,” says Chris, who thought their splashback was elegant and simple. “This feels really well pulled together. It’s simple, there’s nothing overly complex about what they’ve presented.” Lauren thought they had done a good job with their minimalist design and that the team had executed it really well. Ann-Louise said the kitchen was a great sized family space and loved the splash of colourful artwork in the dining room. Overall, all three judges agreed that Tim & Arthur had created a warm, functional kitchen with great natural light.

Tim & Arthur painted the walls, trim, and ceiling in their dining space in snowy Resene Black White. They added pops of colour through vibrant artwork and their choice of décor.

Dylan & Keegan’s Kitchen & Dining Room

Final Score: 19/30

Dylan & Keegan’s dining room is an executive’s haven with sophisticated Resene Alabaster on the trim and ceiling complemented by elegant Resene Eighth Truffle Walls.

Dylan & Keegan created a striking space this week, with six skylights in the dining room reflecting the light off the Resene Eighth Truffle walls. The ceiling and trim in Resene Alabaster created a crisp outline and complemented the polished atmosphere. They continued their colour palette into the kitchen, where Resene Eighth Truffle walls worked well with the team’s choice of neutral cabinetry.

The judges admired Dylan & Keegan’s skill in creating their neutral kitchen but thought the pair had played it safe in comparison to the boldness they had seen in previous rooms. Ann-Louise and Lauren were blown away by Dylan & Keegan’s dining room and thought the pair had incredible vision. “Isn’t this magnificent,” says Lauren. “This is really well done, the colours, the lighting. I’m loving the rafter look.” Ann-Louise agreed that the dining room was exquisite. “I love it, I’d like to have dinner in here,” she says. “I think it’s gorgeous.”

Dylan & Keegan incorporated brass and timber elements into their refined kitchen. The décor pops against Resene Eighth Truffle walls and Resene Alabaster ceiling and trim.

Meg & Dan’s Kitchen & Dining Room

Final Score: 26/30

Meg & Dan’s kitchen design employs clean lines through the cabinetry and spotlights. The walls, ceiling and trim are in Resene Black White.

Meg & Dan created a calm and spacious atmosphere in their kitchen & dining room with Resene Black White on the ceiling, trim, and walls. With wooden accents and moody décor, Meg & Dan’s dining area embodied the couple’s vision of timeless luxury. The kitchen was transformed into a stylish space with shaker-style cabinetry and a three-metre-long island with farmhouse accents. “We’re so excited for our kitchen, it’s the absolute heart of the home,” says Meg.

The judges thought that Meg & Dan had created a light and practical space that felt homely with a good layout. The hidden butler’s pantry was also a hit. Chris said it felt like a social kitchen and Ann-Louise said the couple had created an elegant space that was a great centre of the family home. “This has got a bit more soul,” says Ann-Louise, who liked the practicality of the scullery. “I think it feels homely, I think it feels light.” Lauren liked the timeless vanilla colour palette. “I love the design, I love the farmhouse sink,” she says.

The grey dining table and moody décor in Meg & Dan’s kitchen and dining room pop against the Resene Black White walls, ceiling, and trim.

Connie & Rach’s Kitchen & Dining Room

Final Score: 15.5/30

Connie & Rach continued their use of elegant Resene Barely There on the kitchen ceiling and trim, where it accentuates the cabinetry.

Connie & Rach had ambitious plans this week, building a mezzanine floor above the kitchen & dining room and incorporating a glass piece in the family room floor, which will allow light through to the dining room. They continued their luxe theme with Resene Barely There on the walls, trim, and ceiling, but added in a nature-inspired twist with the cabinetry.

The judges recognised that Connie & Rach had achieved a glamorous space but questioned the visual impact of the design versus its liveability for a family. Lauren liked the colour palette and said the kitchen was well designed for traffic and Ann-Louise thought there were parts of the design that worked beautifully on their own. “It’s very smart,” says Ann-Louise. “I think what’s really important is the overall mood of the space.” Chris thought the dining room was very slick and appeared to be straight from a magazine.
