A simple palette looks superb in this Cambridge showhome
Those on the lookout for a new place to call home in the Cambridge region will be pleased to learn that Sentinel Homes has just opened a brand new showhome there, painted in a soft and warm palette of favourite Resene colours.
“We wanted this showhome to be a little more ‘grown up’ than our last one,” says Kirstie Hunter, Design and Build Consultant for Sentinel Homes. “We wanted sophisticated, luxe interiors with lots of rich textures and autumnal colours to give it a warm and cosy feel and reflect the colours of the landscape outside.
“We also wanted a plan that took full advantage of the beautiful rural views, hence the ‘boomerang’ shape and large windows in the hallways. We also wanted to add some flexibility in the layout by separating the master suite from the rest of the bedrooms.
“As a parent of grown-up children myself," says Del Hart, Managing Director for Sentinel Homes, "I don’t need a large home on a day-to-day basis, but I still want to have the space for when the family and grandchildren come to visit. This layout allows you to turn off the heating and close off one wing completely for day to day living and then open it up again when the family come to stay."
“We decided to use Resene White Pointer on nearly all the walls throughout as we’ve used it successfully before in other homes and we like it because it’s mid-range and works with greys and warmer tones as well. Resene Double Alabaster was used for the skirtings, architraves, ceilings and doors. It’s our go-to white for these areas as its nice and fresh without being too stark," says Kirstie. She considers Resene White Pointer to be among her all-time favourite paint colours. “I love Resene White Pointer and its variations. We’ve used Resene Double White Pointer before too – it’s such a versatile colour that works with both a grey palette and a beige/brown palette.”
While there is a lot to love about the show home, including the eye-catching black and cedar kitchen and bar area with its smoky mirror splashback, Del says it’s the master suite that gets the most positive feedback. “The bifold window over the bath is a real talking point in the master ensuite and the dark and moody master bedroom seems to be everyone’s favourite.”
Kirstie says that the cedar cladding, stained with Resene Waterborne Woodsman Natural, was the most challenging part of the install. “It’s such a beautiful product that it was important it was installed correctly and carefully lining up the bronze rosehead nails perfectly, but the results were completely worth the effort.”

The open plan kitchen, living and dining area, painted Resene White Pointer with ceilings and architraves in Resene Double Alabaster, has generous space for entertaining friends and family.
Resene Colorwood Natural wood stain brings out the inherent beauty of the cedar paneling on the kitchen accent wall. The ceiling and architraves are painted Resene Double Alabaster.
In the lounge, natural textures complement the Resene White Pointer walls and Resene Double Alabaster ceiling and trims. To create a similar look that plays off the warmth of the woods and cushions, try adding a few accessories painted Resene Bi Hoki, Resene Twisted Sister or Resene Swiss Caramel.
A simple patterned wallpaper behind the bed in the master suite adds a touch of texture and glamour to the moodily lit space. For a similar look, try Resene Wallpaper Collection Z44525, GLA103 or 30417-5. The rest of the walls are in Resene White Pointer and the ceiling and trim are in Resene Double Alabaster.
Resene White Pointer on the walls and Resene Double Alabaster on the ceiling of the master ensuite pair perfectly with the bright white bathroom fixtures for a spa-like look.
The walls of this sunny spare bedroom are painted Resene White Pointer and the ceiling and architraves are painted Resene Double Alabaster.
The third bedroom, styled with a little girl in mind, is painted Resene White Pointer, but we could easily envision it filled with fun crafts like these painted in pretty pinks like Resene Princess, Resene Ballerina or Resene Slipper. The ceiling and trims are painted Resene Double Alabaster.
The main bathroom has been kept crisp and clean and is painted Resene White Pointer from top to bottom.
Outside, the exterior cedar cladding is stained with Resene Waterborne Woodsman Natural.
