A full spectrum redesign of the art room at Te Tuhi

The future is going to be bright judging by the work of up and coming interior designer Xiaoping Jiang. Xiaoping studied at the Nanette Cameron School of Interior Design, where she created a concept for the art room at Te Tuhi, where the design school holds its lessons.

“When students first enter the room they are greeted by a rainbow tunnel in Resene Suzie Q, Resene Energise, Resene Headlights, Resene Limerick, Resene Hope, Resene Point Break and Resene Tempt. By entering the tunnel, a student is then transported from an ordinary universe to a magical universe,” explains Xiaoping. “It’s a metaphor for the transition from outside to inside whereby the boundaries of their creativity and imagination can be stretched.”

Xiaoping Jiang’s rainbow tunnel is painted in Resene Suzie Q, Resene Energise, Resene Headlights, Resene Limerick, Resene Hope, Resene Point Break and Resene Tempt.

In the main art room, Xiaoping went for a neutral scheme designed to reflect natural light creating the perfect space for creativity and a blank canvas for artwork. Resene Black White was specified for three of the walls with the forth wall to be painted in Resene FX Write-on Wall Paint over Resene Triple Concrete to provide a surface for students to write notes on the walls like a whiteboard.

Unlike normal whiteboards, Resene FX Write-on Wall Paint is designed to work with your existing décor by allowing the colour of your walls to show through the clear finish. So you can specify a Resene Tea coloured whiteboard, a Resene Spanish White one or any other light Resene colour that you desire by simply changing the colour of the wall prior to applying clear Resene Write-on Wall Paint.

Spots of colour on the floor, a custom-designed colour wheel clock and rainbow drying racks carry the same hues and whimsy from the tunnel into the main space.

“By redesigning the interior, we create a bright, fun and creative space which I hope will encourage creativity and broaden the student's imagination,” says Xiaoping.

Xiaoping Jiang kept the colour scheme in the art rooms simple using Resene ClinicalCote tinted to Resene Black White on three of the walls and Resene Ceiling Paint tinted to Resene Black White for the ceiling. The grey feature wall is painted using Resene FX Write-on Wall Paint over Resene Triple Concrete to make a wall that can not only be used like a whiteboard but is a great backdrop for the colour wheel clock.
