Blacker than black

New Resene Blackest Black is Resene’s darkest colour yet and the perfect shade for a media room or statement feature.
While black is, in colour theory, actually the absence of all colours, things are slightly different in the world of paint.
Resene Group Technical Manager Mike Clowes says a paint colour can only be classified as black if it reflects less than 1% of incident light. “The lesser the light reflection from an object, the blacker it is,” he explains. “Finer black pigment particles usually exhibit higher jetness, so, for Resene Blackest Black, it was crucial to bring the particle size down to the smallest possible level.”
“Viewed side-by-side against conventional black finishes, it’s amazing how Resene Blackest Black has so much depth and impact,” Mike says, adding that the new colour is the ideal hue for interior applications such as a home cinema, or an interior feature wall that will benefit from the colour’s depth.
Resene has a long history of responding directly to trade and specifier needs, and the launch of Resene Blackest Black is no different.
“Even if the need is small, Resene’s sales and marketing teams may recognise an idea as having potential. The Resene Blackest Black technology was developed and made available by a raw material supplier. It then becomes our role to identify the potential and progress from there,” says Mike.
Resene Blackest Black is initially available in Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen, but for a higher sheen finish you can use Resene Concrete Clear as a topcoat.
