Limited edition Beyond the Sea blues – will take your designs to new depths

19 Jul 2022

Sensing a call towards using exotic and bold colour choices? Now is the perfect time;  Resene’s new limited-edition blues are just that.

The new ultramarine palette is made from lapis lazuli, a sought-after mineral that began being mined in Afghanistan in 7000BC. Ground into powder and made into ultramarine, it was seen as the most expensive blue pigment, and was used by Renaissance artists when depicting the central figures of their paintings.

The Resene Beyond the Sea palette comprises six colours, ranging from blackened ultramarine blue to an energetic lighter blue, and are the first instances that this ultramarine pigment has been used to make paint locally.

The new Resene Beyond the sea palette features six brilliant new ultramarine hues: (from left to right) Resene Azur d'Acre, Resene Ultramarine, Resene Lapis Lazuli, Resene Brilliante, Resene Artiste and Resene Wild Blue Yonder. These hues are only available tinted into Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen, however, you may adjust the sheen by applying a topcoat in Resene Concrete Clear flat, satin or gloss. Its unique colourway requires a uniquely toned base which has only been formulated for Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen, recommended for bringing enamel-style toughness to broadwall areas. This finish reduces reflected glare from interior lighting or sunlight, enabling these stunning colours to be admired in living rooms, bedrooms, offices and theatre-type spaces.

Simply prep your surface the same as when you use regular Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen. Once the surface is ready, apply the required Resene Acrylic Undercoat and allow it to dry before painting your recommended three topcoats.

For projects with walls and ceilings where you want or need a higher sheen level, you can overcoat Resene ultramarine blues in Resene Concrete Clear flat, satin or gloss.

These lapis lazuli pigmented hues create drama in an interior space.  Back wall in Resene Wild Blue Yonder, right wall and pencil cup in Resene Ultramarine, pendant lamp, vase, plant pots in Resene Black White and textured artwork created with Resene EzyFill topcoated in Resene Black White.
