What is your role at Resene and what does it involve?

I am the Resene Technical Services Manager. I give tech advice to specifiers, Resene reps and to the Resene ColorShop staff. I’ve been working at Resene for 35 years now.

What is your biggest design or product tip?

Use Resene’s waterborne enamel and waterborne alkyd paints. You no longer need to rely on high-VOC solvent-based options to get a tough, durable finish. Resene waterborne enamels, like Resene Lustacryl and Resene Enamacryl, give you that classic hardwearing enamel look but with lower odour, easy water clean-up and better indoor air quality. For areas that need extra durability Resene waterborne alkyds offer the best of both worlds, with the smooth flow and finish of an oil-based paint, but in a low-VOC, water-based formula. It’s a smarter, more sustainable way to decorate without compromising on performance.

Can you recommend a great Resene product for our readers?

One of our newer ones, Resene Waterborne Sureseal, is very versatile. It’s mainly used for sealing interior wall boards and plaster boards, or used as an adhesion primer on ceramics and other surfaces. It’s a good general sealer.

What has been your favourite part about working with Resene in your 35 years?

Resene has been the most trusted paint brand in New Zealand for a long time and that not only represents our commitment to quality but our commitment to service. I am proud of our Resene ColorShop staff being front of house, and seeing them grow their knowledge and end up as sales reps, architectural reps or technical experts.

After all this time I get to use all the information I have tucked away to help others so it can continue through to the newer staff and to clients.

What is your favourite Resene colour?

Resene Tea. It fits in with a lot of colours and particularly as an exterior colour. My wife’s favourite is Resene Lemon Grass.
