What is your role at Resene and what does it involve?

My role at Resene is a Colour Consultant based in the Dunedin Resene ColorShop. I assist clients with colour options for a wide variety of projects from exterior to interior residential repaints to new builds/schools/hospitality and commercial projects.

I assist with retail and trade clients instore, on-site and by email guiding through what can be a daunting process and helping them to create stunning spaces. Another part of my role is promoting Resene at the Home Show, House and Garden events and various other events where Resene is a sponsor.

Tell us about some of your favourite projects using Resene products.

My favourite project is one which featured on the cover of NZ House and Garden Magazine August 2020. This was a very special project bringing the clients vision to life with stunning Resene wallpapers and paint colours. Each room was carefully planned covering every detail from ceiling, walls, trims and wallpaper to compliment her stunning antiques. I felt honoured to be asked to work on such an outstanding renovation.

I was also extremely privileged to be able to work with a client renovating a very cool heritage home. This home has undergone a total exterior makeover and the end result was stunning and was awarded a Resene Total Colour Residential Exterior Award in 2022. The exterior colour combination of Resene Half Pearl Lusta, Resene Quarter Pearl Lusta, Resene Dark Knight and Resene Powder Blue setting off the traditional features of this weatherboard home. 

What is you biggest design or product tip?

Find a starting point and look for images with colours that you like and build a folder of ideas. Take this with you when looking for colours.

Look for the most expensive items first like for interiors benchtops and carpets or flooring. 

Always grab a testpot of your favourite colours and use them on large pieces of white cardboard making sure to do two coats of paint. This will help you decide if the colour works in the space, and you can easily move it around your home and view in different lights. Be aware lighting plays a big part in choosing the right colour.

What are your favourite Resene colours?

When you work with colour it is hard to name only a few but I love Resene Coast, a stunning dark blue, Resene Rivergum, a mid-green restful colour from nature and Resene Quarter Thorndon Cream, a classic clean fresh elegant cream.
