When most people think Resene, they immediately picture the more than 6000 paint colours available and don’t necessarily think about the coatings systems specifically formulated to protect our commercial and historic architecture.
And yet, for the dedicated team of Resene Project Services Representatives, like Theo Waters, working with architects who specialise in heritage and commercial projects, is a large part of their jobs.
“I specialise in repaint and maintenance projects, working closely with building consultants, property managers and body corporates, says Theo.
“I provide technical advice, undertake site inspections, prepare painting specifications and manage painting tenders. My role is to help clients identify the most appropriate coating systems and to support projects from initial assessment through to contractor selection.”
Theo recently worked on the refresh of the Old Customhouse building at the bottom of the CBD.

“I am very pleased with the result of that project. With assistance from our commercial colour consultant Amy Watkins, we were able to deliver a beautiful and subtle result with a flat finish on the main façade elements, thanks to Resene AquaShield, complemented by a high gloss white finish on the plaster detailing, using Hi Glo tinted to white.
“Actually, Resene AquaShield is my pick for the industry’s most underrated product. I have seen it used on a number of high-profile heritage and commercial buildings and its dead-flat finish never fails to impress.
“A mineral silicate, AquaShield is both highly permeable – allowing internal water vapour to pass through to the exterior – and hydrophobic, which means water beads on the surface and washes off – taking dirt and grime with it. It is in effect self-cleaning.”
While professionally Theo has to take into account a range of criteria when it comes to colour selection, personally his choice of a favourite is less constrained.
“That would have to be Resene Turbo!”
