What is your role at Resene and what does that involve?

As an Architectural Specifier Representative at Resene, I provide professional advice and technical support about our products and help to answer all coating related questions.

With my background in Spatial Design my goal is to work closely with architects and designers to provide them with the best possible coating systems for their new or existing projects.

Tell us about some of your favourite projects using Resene products.

I enjoyed working on the project Watda - a Dumpling restaurant in Ponsonby, Auckland. This lovely colour scheme was organised by Angela Fell, our amazing colour consultant. It was a difficult task to replicate a plaster look just with a paint finish, but it was an enjoyable experience working closely with the applicator. I worked closely with the contractor, Mark from Surface, and we completed several samples to achieve the look that the client wanted.

Watda, Dumpling restaurant in Ponsonby, Auckland, using Resene Sandtex tinted to Resene Spanish White with Resene Putty mixed with Resene FX Paint Effects Medium.

We used Resene Sandtex in the colour Resene Spanish White as the basecoat to create the textured finish. We then applied the second coat with Resene SpaceCote Low Sheen in the colour Resene Putty mixed with Resene FX Paint Effects Medium. It created a beautiful colourwashed look. 

The finished mix ratio should be between 70% Resene FX Paint Effects Medium to 30% your selected colour up to 95% Resene FX Paint Effects Medium to 5% your selected colour. From this project, I have learnt that it is crucial to do test samples before you start the actual project.

What is your biggest design or product tip?

Always test out the paint finishes on samples before you start the actual job. Digital screen colours and paint colours will always look different when viewed electronically.

What are your favourite Resene colours? 

Spray finished Resene Aluminium has always been my favourite. It has this amazing vibrant pearlescent feeling and creates new extra dimension to colour when the light reflects.
