Product of the month: Resene anti-graffiti range

14 Aug 2025

If you’ve ever worked on an exterior or public-facing project, then you know how important it is to use protective coatings that stand the test of time… and taggers!

Resene’s latest update to its Waka Kotahi NZTA S10-approved anti-graffiti systems is here, offering specifiers and designers a trusted guide for protecting high-profile infrastructure. If you're planning a bold public mural or need lasting performance in urban environments, these newly updated systems combine proven technology with practical application.

Independently tested to AGBT-T750 standards and compliant with Austroads Technical Specification ATS-5820, the updated schedule outlines both clear and pigmented product systems approved for concrete surfaces. This includes combinations of Resene Uracryl 402, Resene Uracryl 403 and Resene Uracryl 404 finishes, along with Resene Solventborne Aquapel and Altex Easy Clean SX additive, giving surfaces extra resilience and ease of maintenance.

These systems are ideal for infrastructure that sees high foot (or wheel) traffic which is also prone to graffiti or environmental wear and tear.

A shining example is Harewood Underpass in Christchurch:

A standout example of colour, protection and urban storytelling, the Harewood Underpass in Christchurch demonstrates the power of good design paired with high-performance coatings. This award-winning pedestrian and cycle route uses bold Resene colours like Resene Carpe Diem, Resene Captain Cook and a custom Resene Jasmax White to create a cathedral-like experience in a space once considered a safety concern.

Each of the concrete panels received five coats: one coat of concrete sealer, two coats of coloured Resene Lumbersider low sheen waterborne paint and two coats of Resene Uracryl 402 and Resene Uracryl 403, favouring a higher sheen on internal walls. Resene Aquapel was also used as a water repellent on the concrete.

The result is a joyful and highly functional public space, resistant to tagging and environmental degradation, and a visual celebration of the Canterbury landscape, from stormy grey skies to sun-drenched plains.
