Project spotlight: Westport News building gets a bright makeover

Family owned and proud to be one of New Zealand’s few remaining independent newspapers, Westport News has been a voice for its community since the early 1870s. Recently, they sought to update the exterior of The News building on Palmerston Street.
The revamp has scored the tick of approval from locals, and hundreds of liked photos on social media seem to prove the new paint job is a hit in the community.
The News’ co-owner Lee Scanlon said she was delighted the new look had done down well. “It’s a beautiful old building and we wanted to make the most of it,” Lee says. “A huge thanks to our contractors who worked long hours during fine weather so the few wet days didn’t set us back.”
The new palette is a far sight from the darker colours it once had. The News building is now painted in a bright unique blue, Resene Bali Hai, with window surrounds and decorative trim bands in Resene Merino, and corbel brackets and window sashes in Resene Dark Crimson.
