Work of art: Accenture Song's vibrant Melbourne office mural unveiled
12 Feb 2024
Within Melbourne's bustling business district, a once-dull office space has undergone a remarkable transformation, thanks to the collaborative efforts of a group of creative minds: Chloe, Abbie, Kiera and Lou. The team, working under the umbrella of Accenture Song, joined forces to breathe life into their workspace using bursts of Resene colour. The once mundane wall is now a vibrant testament of creativity, teamwork and community building.
The inspiration for the office mural emerged on the trio's first day at the Melbourne Accenture office. Bonding over shared dissatisfaction with the uninspiring workspace, they decided to inject a dose of colour and creativity. Summer evenings spent brainstorming over a few glasses of wine led to a groundbreaking idea - paint the expansive wall, turning it into a canvas that would inspire collaboration and break down barriers within the office.
This wonderful office mural is painted in Resene Havoc, Resene Bright Spark, Resene Ballerina, Resene Saratoga, Resene Bondi Blue, Resene Smoke Tree, Resene Vista Blue, Resene Bingo, Resene Black, Resene White and Resene Moonbeam.
The doers and makers in the office, pitching in to help paint the mural. Resene Lumbersider Low Sheen, tinted to a variety of shades, was used for its durability and longevity.
Chloe, also known as Clumsy Hands, brought her skills as an illustrator to the forefront. Abbie, with prior mural painting experience, and Lou, a powerhouse in project management, formed a dynamic team ready to turn their vision into reality.
With the support of doers and makers in the office, the project evolved into a ‘Paint by Numbers’ social event. Colleagues were invited to participate, turning the mural into a collective masterpiece. Chloe's illustration, showcasing Australian native plant life, provided a beautiful backdrop for the collaborative effort.
Resene paints, known for their bold and vibrant colours, were chosen to bring Chloe's vivid style to life. A trip to the local Resene ColorShop in Abbotsford, guided by George Rose, a local muralist and Resene enthusiast, resulted in just the right colour palette of paint. The selection included playful pastels and warm earthy tones, capturing the essence of the Australian environment.

The journey to transform the office wall was not without its challenges. Navigating through budgets, approvals, health and safety considerations and logistical issues proved to be hurdles in the lead-up to the project. However, the team, led by the indomitable Project Manager Lou, tackled these challenges head-on, ensuring that the project moved forward seamlessly.
The painting week itself turned out to be a joyous and collaborative affair. Over 60 people from various departments, including tech support, the downstairs café barista, and the office facilities team, joined in the creative endeavor. The ’Paint by Numbers’ approach encouraged even the most hesitant participants to contribute, fostering a sense of camaraderie and breaking down silos between different parts of the business.
To capture the essence of the collaborative effort, the team documented the event using Polaroids, now displayed on the opposite wall. The result is not just a visually stunning mural but also a tangible reminder of the fun and creativity that the team brought to the workspace.

The transformation of a dull wall into a vibrant masterpiece serves as a daily reminder for all of us at work to break away from the monotony of the everyday and embrace the spirit of innovation and teamwork. As the mural continues to inspire, the Accenture Song team eagerly looks forward to the ripple effect of creativity within their community.
