Surprises and second chances on Three’s The Block NZ’s Do Over Week

This was the week for second chances and do overs for the teams on Three’s The Block NZ as they inched closer towards the finish line. The teams were given the opportunity to paint over the past and improve on their choice of room, creating jaw-dropping spaces with Resene Ayers Rock and Resene Green Spring

The teams were given an extra $5000 budget this week and were able to keep it if they improved their previous room scores. With an extra $7000 up for grabs for the team who showed the most improvement, the paint brushes were out, with some truly spectacular results.

The rooms weren’t the only thing keeping the teams busy this week; they decorated a space for Barnardos using colourful Resene paints and a game changer challenge saw them creating fruit portraits of their teammates. Dylan & Keegan took out the game changer, winning a +1 and an extra $500 for their budget.

The week wasn’t without its drama and when it came time for judging, more than scores were revealed. Tim & Arthur were disqualified for vacuuming their kitchen after tools down. Connie & Rach were disqualified for using their personal money to pay for their décor, leaving only Dylan & Keegan and Meg & Dan in the running this week. Ultimately, Meg & Dan took the win with their revamped boy’s bedroom turned teenage girl’s room.

We take a closer look at the four rooms this week:

Meg & Dan’s Winning Kid’s Room

Final Score: 24/30

A fresh spring feel was created in Meg & Dan’s do over room which became an elegant teenage girl’s room with Resene Black White on the ceiling and lower wall and Megalicious, Meg’s combination of Resene Green Spring, Resene Black White and Resene Stack, on the upper wall.

Meg & Dan turned their boy’s room into a sophisticated teenage girl’s room using Megalicious; a paint blend created by Meg herself, using Resene Stack, Resene Black White and Resene Green Spring. They painted the dado board and lower wall, trim and ceiling in crisp Resene Black White.

The judges thought the team’s design was a breath of fresh air and the space was sensible and calm. “Fantastic,” says Lauren. “This is better suited to the space.” Ann Louise agreed, saying the space felt different, with calm colours and an appealing depth and softness.

Chris says it felt much more connected to the aesthetic of the house.

Dylan & Keegan’s Room

Final Score: 19/30

Dylan & Keegan embraced their inner child with playful Resene Wallpaper Collection PS26062 that complemented the walls in Resene Eighth Truffle and Resene Alabaster on the ceiling.

This week was child’s play for Dylan & Keegan, who redid their kid’s bedroom with fun, striped Resene Wallpaper Collection PS2602. Sticking to their home’s overall colour palette, they painted the walls in Resene Eighth Truffle with Resene Alabaster trim and ceiling. Their study nook was brought to life with a feature panel in Resene Ayers Rock

The judges thought that Dylan & Keegan had made a great improvement on their previous bedroom design. They thought the room looked more understated and much bigger, targeting a wider range of people. “I’m liking the styling and I’m loving the cutesy nature of the bedspreads and the toys on display,” says Lauren.

Connie & Rach’s Room

Final Score: 0/30

Connie & Rach decided to do over their kitchen & dining room, creating a family orientated space using Resene Barely There on the ceiling, walls and trim.

Connie & Rach revamped their kitchen & dining room this week, removing the wall mirror and maximalist dried flower light arrangement in the dining room in favour of a large oak table and sophisticated light with gold accents. They painted the walls, ceiling and trim in dreamy Resene Barely There and added in a breakfast table between the kitchen and dining room to create a cosy nook.

The judges thought the space made a lot more sense with the team’s readjustments and new additions. All three judges agreed the space was much brighter and thought they had created a considered and restrained space. “It’s just a whole new space,” says Lauren. “It’s definitely working, what a 180. It’s looking great, it feels so much more brighter.” Ann Louise loved the addition of the breakfast table and the new light fitting. They were all impressed by the warm and homely tweaks the team had made and agreed that it was now much more family friendly.

The dining room became a feast for the eyes when Connie & Rach replaced the wall mirror with Resene Barely There. Resene Barely There on the walls, ceiling and trim complemented the new oak furniture and added warmth to the room.

Tim & Arthur’s Room

Final Score: 0/30

Tim & Arthur created a gallery hallway with crisp Resene Black White on the ceiling, walls and trim.

Tim & Arthur finished up their entrance, stairs, hallway & powder room from last week and created a space that wowed. With walls, ceiling and trim all in fresh Resene Black White, the team created a unique gallery experience down their hallway and into the powder room.

The judges loved the front door, stairs and choice of lights. They thought the use of artwork was exceptional. “Welcome to my art gallery,” said Ann Louise as she walked through the front door. “It is lovely. It’s great to see all the art, I really love it.” Chris agreed, saying the simplicity of what they had created came together beautifully to create a journey through the home. Lauren thought their eclectic and colourful choices brought a clean edge to the spaces. [Text Wrapping Break]
