Teal appeal

This deep green-blue shade is definitely having its moment, and we’re loving its appearance in home interiors. Sure, it can be a little daring, but teal has a certain calming and grounding quality to it, which makes it perfect for any space at home. Let’s take a look at some appealing teal designs and how you can make them work with other colours.

No longer after afterthought, the days of stark, utilitarian bathrooms devoid of colour and personality have passed. The use of teal in bathrooms feels fresh and deeply restorative, which is just want we want in such a space. It’s a clean colour, but far from stark, and when paired simply with blacks and whites like Nero and Sea Fog, it’s truly a space to enjoy and relax in at the end of a long day.

If you’re considering adding a feature wall to your living room, then Resene Golden Age Wallpaper Collection 103826217 is a great option. It has a teal background with a delicate gold geometric design for a touch of elegance. Pair this with other metallic décor, crisp white like Black White, and warm clay tones on accessories with Mai Tai or Hot Toddy.

This art deco style kitchen is glamourous and refined. The teal cabinetry in a high-gloss Resene Welcome pairs beautifully with the gold ceiling and décor and black door. Check out the Resene Metallics range for more shimmering colour options (the recommended base coat is shown in brackets after each colour name). Resene Gold, Bullion and Blast Yellow all work wonderfully with teal tones.

Teal is one of those tones that shifts in different light and is easy to work with. You can play with it being a little more blue, or a little more green. And depending on what you pair it with you can enhance the different undertones. To bring out the greener tones and create a grounded space, pair your chosen teal with stains like Resene Colorwood Breathe Easy, Oregon or a darker English Walnut. For a more blue, cooler space, try using crisp whites and pops of darker blues like New Denim Blue and Blue Charcoal.

Resene has many shades of teal to try. For slightly greener teals, try Aquamarine and Rolling Hills, and for bluer shades, try Sea Green and Retro:
