Three’s The Block NZ room reveal: Guest bedrooms are first up

This season of Three’s The Block NZ promises to be action-packed if the first room reveal is anything to go by. The Guest Bedrooms revealed in last Wednesday’s episode of the hit Three reality show featured plenty of neutrals like Resene Truffle and Resene Half Sea Fog.

In episode one, Mark gave the teams a budget of $150,000 to makeover their three-bedroom Orewa townhouses. Then in the third episode of the series, it was a race to tools down before the first room reveal.

Plenty of soft Resene neutrals featured in each team’s room, with creative use of Resene Wallpaper Collection 467505 in one bedroom. Taking the first room out though was Stacy & Adam, scoring a solid 16 points. They were closely followed by Chloe & Ben with 14.5; then Quinn & Ben and Maree & James tied with 12 points. As the winning team for week one, Stacy and Adam have the power to re-assign the houses or keep them as they are.

We take a closer look at the four guest bedrooms this week:

Stacy & Adam’s Guest Bedroom

Final Score: 16/20.

Walls painted in Resene Quarter Bianca with Resene Truffle on the panelling and Resene Wallpaper Collection 467505 above the panelling.

Stacy & Adam came out on top this week at the room reveal, incorporating the soothing Resene Wallpaper Collection 467505 and Resene Truffle into their guest bedroom. They were eager to take out the first room reveal win – knowing their winning streak during their season, they were concerned the other teams would want to put them at a disadvantage. Judges said the room had a relaxed and calm vibe, a beachy-feel but with a softened colour scheme (instead of bright whites). Resene Truffle on the panelling behind the bed is soft and warm light beige, like winter foliage. They liked their use of Resene Wallpaper Collection 467505. The feedback is positive overall and catapults them to the top spot this week.

Chloe & Ben’s Guest Bedroom

Final Score: 14.5/20.

Walls, trims and ceiling painted in Resene Eighth Pravda with Resene Half Sea Fog on the bedroom’s panelling.

Chloe & Ben’s guest bedroom is chic using Resene Eighth Pravda on their walls, a sophisticated winter beige with hints of warmth. Resene Half Sea Fog complements the hue beautifully on the panelled wall below. The pair were aiming to not take on too much in their first week and overwhelm themselves, and all was going to plan until Ben forgot one crucial thing: doors. Team Blue was left in a frantic frenzy trying to contact suppliers late in the week.

At the room reveal, the judges were impressed with the tailored and refined panelling design painted in Resene Half Sea Fog, and think they’ve both made massive improvements from the previous season. Although they mention they could have been more daring and pulled moodier colours from their art to use, they label them as the team to watch.

Maree & James’ Guest Bedroom

Final Score: 12/20.

Walls and ceiling painted in Resene Half Bianca with Resene Pavlova on the panelling.

Maree & James say they’re focused on neutral tones to appeal to the maximum number of buyers and chose Resene Half Bianca for the walls and ceiling with Resene Pavlova on the panelling. The judges say the space feels cosy, warm and peaceful, but there’s not enough wow-factor, they are looking for more innovation. They are concerned that the couple have played this week way too safely.

Quinn & Ben’s Guest Bedroom

Final Score: 12/20.

Wall painted in Resene Peace and ceiling in Resene Black White.

Quinn is committed to getting Resene testpots early this season to check her colour choices. She lands on the stunning Resene Peace, a tranquil soft green, with Resene Black White looking crisp on the ceiling. At the room reveal, Quinn & Ben are given points on their Resene colour scheme, but not on design as Jason says the space is a little lacklustre.
